I am still on www.sorarchive.com and I have been off the registry for a couple of years.

My name appears on a Google search for both the www.sorarchive.com site and another site, www.homefacts.com. My profile is on the sorarchive.com site, but does not show up on the www.homefacts.com site.

Of course, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections immediately removed my name from the state site and the local sheriff did also.

When I was removed from the registry, I sent my notification from the Oklahoma Department Corrections that I had been removed pursuant to the Starkey decision to all the private online registries. All of them removed my name except sorarchive.com.

There was even a local paper called "Jailbirds" that featured area sex offenders. I emailed them a copy of my removal notification and they had no problem removing my name and picture.

I honestly do not care anymore, so I never pursued the www.sorarchive.com people any further. The private companies that feature registration information are sometimes not cooperative with removing names and apparently www.sorarchives.com is in that category.

While I know all of that is correct - it still seems as if states would recognize the fact that an RSO is no lnger under sanctions in their home state. it might be because of a fed vs state issue but with the power the states have to make laws about RSOs that go far beyond the AWA etc. it seems they also could have the power to recognize an RSO is no longer on a state registry. In other words if FL did not have lifetime registry for everyone when someone came into the state and registered if they had to they would not be put on FL registry.

Does SORNA not have registry time limits for certain crimes?

I have heard Homefacts and other sites like that actually extort people as leverage into taking them off their websites, even when they have been removed by the state. Is there any merit to that claim? Isn't that legally extortion?

Based on what I've learned in the last few days Sikovitall, if you are removed from you state's registry, it actually sounds like traveling to other states will be more difficult for you. If being removed unburdens you from registry restrictions and community notification, then it probably would be worth it. But traveling won't be the same. Right now you can go to Texas for 10 days without registering. If you were to get off, you'd have to register in Texas within 3 days and possibly (according to Rew in a Private Message to me) register upon arriving back in Georgia.

I meant residency restrictions, not registry restrictions, though they are more or less the same thing.

I live in FL and my hubs is getting out of prison in 66 days and this just makes me sick. Both of our families and most of our friends live here and he does not want to leave. I have no problem leaving but he says no. I just hope he doesn't regret that decision later. sigh*

Does not want to leave Florida? Yeah, I can understand why you'd feel that way. Weigh the pros and cons with him. I think Oregon is a state where they are so backlogged with their registry that a lot of people who register actually are not making it on, or so I hear. Some states are certainly better than others, though none are good.

Family ties and friends matter so if that's enough to keep him there, it's a decision I understand. But because Florida is as onerous as it is, we don't even let our son vacation there with us at Christmas. It's an important decision so talk to someone who can advise you carefully along the way.

Just remember that if he registers in Florida, if he later decides to move, he'll be on Florida's registry for life. So it is a very important decision.

nsiclkeba - he will regret it. Right now he is feeling the elation of getting free from incarceration but he has NO IDEA how bad life on the registry (especially in FL) can be. Please please try to talk to him. There are many other states that are treating RSOs a lot better and life can be more simple. Some have no living restrictions etc. Tell him this - every time the family wants to go to an outing he will have to assess whether he can go - a park - no, a beach - no (in some counties), a school function? - no. And it goes on and on ....

Also in FL the requirements for probation/parole are very restrictive. And he will have to take several polygraphs (one of them being the controversial sexual history one) Please try to talk to him ....... it is a horribly bad idea and one that will affect his life forever!
