You are literally biting the hand that feeds you when you call into question the legitimacy of the "libtard" professors and their research. That research is the basis for almost all of our arguments that could potentially give us our rights back,
These "Libtards" arguments:
1. Recidivism is much lower than what most people think
2. Most sex crimes against children are committed by people they know and know well
3. Residency restrictions do not work and can make it tougher for RSOs to reintegrate making them more likely not less likely to commit another sex crime
Those sound like incredibly stupid arguments, how dare they actually look at what the research says. They probably don't know anything because they are so libtarded.
These "Libtards" are our biggest, and most vocal supporters, and you couldn't care less about them and even insult them and all other teachers because you do not like their politics?
Continue to bite the hand that feeds you Coastie,
Oh and BTW did you see the person that needed help from Utah? I think Rew answered his questions but it would be nice if you aren't going to comment on this thread anymore maybe you could, I don't know, support that person asking questions from Utah?
Do I teach my students liberal ideas? What exactly would that be? I am curious? I teach my students all sides of an issue - we discuss different scenarios etc. I do tell them when something is my opinion or theory on a subject and when it is not. For instance, when we discuss the fact that the USA has the highest incarceration rate of any country on Earth and does not have the largest population I explain to them that those are facts. But when I tell them that one problem that contributes to that fact is the over-criminalization in our country they are told that is MY opinion and that there are certainly other contributing factors.
BTW - in case you had not noticed I was one of the only ones supporting your view in a fashion - I repeated that liberals and conservatives alike have shown they are on the get tough on sex offenders bandwagon but you managed to insult me! LOL
I am done defending professors - and BTW when I say I am done I am - I do not have an overwhelming need to have the last word on a subject.
Civil commitment was chosen because people wanted an easy solution. Not because it was an appropriate thing to do. In my state, it is used as a means to get power for people in government. It has nothing to do with public safety. The problem they are having now is the extreme expense. There is a role for the state to care for people who cannot care for themselves. Not everyone has access to funds to care for themselves or has the ability to work the system to find what they need. One of my professional interests is in people with dementia. Often sex offenders who later develop dementia end up on the streets because no one will accept the burden of caring for someone "on the list". Does that person need care? Yes! But who will provide it? Well, if they are on the street, nobody is providing it.
Simple solutions need to be replaced with solutions that make sense and are based on evidence, meaning the appropriate studies have been done to show that the solutions work and the money would be well spent.
Unfortunately, civil commitment for sex offenders is growing in my state. The sex offender "behavioral health center" is beside one of the last big state institutions. That institution houses about 200 people with severe dementia, which is going to be closed in the next 2-3 years. Hmmm....I wonder what their plan is for those buildings....
In another post, I noted that a known innocent man was going to be civilly committed a few weeks ago. The only way to stop it was a pardon from the governor, which is what happened. They knew he was innocent. The actual rapist has confessed. Yet, they were going to civilly commit this guy anyway. He'd already served 29 years for a crime they knew he didn't commit. That's crazy!
Who is responsible for this kind of thing? Do we simplify it down to neocons and libtards? ...or do we advocate for appropriate solutions?
Just asking'
Just asking'"
Peek of course we advocate for appropriate solutions to both parties! I am not saying that one party is better than the other at this current time. They both have an atrocious voting record on the matter of anything and everything RSO related as coastie so eloquently pointed out. What Rew and I are saying is that the liberal philosophy is more conducive in the long run for us to see freedom. My point is our biggest vocal supporters are college professors and researchers in criminology who show that we don't reoffend at a high level. Coastie and others that think like him openly show their disdain for these professors. Do you think that means they are more or less likely to listen to them?
I would rather a person write a story about raping a person than to engage in the behaviors and I do not agree with government punishing a person for having such thoughts. But prosecuting them is the product of decades of blind eyes from society and the free for all that politicians use to score points with voters to get reelected into office.
Now on the personal side, I admit it is very difficult for me to feel sorry for those like this man who face charges for only having thoughts, when I, as a guardian of a sex offender, see what the system, the government, and those in society have done to him. Very credible studies over decades say that people with mental illness and those with developmental disabilities are at a substantial likelihood to give false confessions to sex crimes. But still they are convicted, imprisoned, and many are civilly committed until the die.
However, on the professional and advocate side, I advocate against such abuses of power no different than I advocate against what is done to people like my ward because of his disabilities. But I also realize that it is unlikely that any real achievements in addressing the bad laws is going to be achieved until we reach a level where we stop this way of only caring if we have a personal stake.
There you go, jumping with out knowing any facts, sad, but typical.....
Anything else?
Having said that, our teachers are the unsung heroes of this country. Elementary teachers through high school and onto the universities, teachers are one of the backbones of this country.
I can clearly remember the influence one of my pharmacology professors had on me in college.
They work hard, often putting up with difficult students, and for little pay. Many are teachers because they feel a commitment to helping educate our children.
They are rarely praised, but often scorned. Without them, we would all be in the dark ages.
Many teachers have a positive influence on our children and their future lives. After all, a teacher spends more time with our kids than anyone except the parent.
I know all this because my best friend is a retired high school teacher and I have seen all she has given of her life for her students. She and I will be somewhere and all of a sudden someone comes up to her and says, "Do you remember me?" You were my English teacher when I was a sophomore and I loved your class."
I just hate to see someone criticize teachers. They either do not understand education and its value or they are thoughtless.

Like i said, I've had great teachers, but I've also had teachers that would spit on me because of my beliefs.
Some of those good teachers are still my friends to this day, all retired now, and they will tell you that liberalism has infected education down to the elementary level, remember "Barack Hussein Obama, mmm mmm mmm, Barack Hussein Obama.....The video is all over the internet since 2008..Elementary school kids.
Am I a 'Thoughtless' conservative, or do I just not understand the value of education?
Neither, or both.....When it comes to liberals, both, because I am not lock step with their ideas, neither because I am well educated in subjects I'm most interested in, especially 20th century and American History and I see my nephews and nieces school books...Did you know that the US caused the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor? We did.(according to the liberal version) because of our cutting off the raw materials Japan needed to continue their war on China, never mind that there are thousands of documents that show Japan had plans to take what they wanted anyhow, but you won't find that in any text books anymore. The text books now blame the US for every bad thing in this world now.
Like I said before, I LOVE my country. Yes the right has it's faults too and i'm getting tired of repeating that, and i'm scared at what it is becoming.
"Many teachers have a positive influence on our children".
You said, not me, well actually I have too, many teachers are good, but not all.
I don't know why people won't read my posts in their entirety, but I am getting used to that from the left..
I deal in reality and I'm not going to change my point of view, call me a Fascist, Neocon, warmonger, right wing nut, Tea Bagger, which is pretty offensive and kind of disgusting but is widely used on msDNC. OH, yeah, look back over the years, i have often said I watch and listen to ALL sides, not just FOX.
As for Advocate, maybe all of you should re read my post, I told her that i didn't know if she imparted her liberalism and that she may be a good teacher, i just go by her posts on here.
I'm not going to apologize for NOT being "Politically Correct, another liberal concoction...
Now, today is the 71st anniversary of the warmongering USA and their minions, Canada and the UK, invaded France.........
I'm all good with going at it with you all, but i will leave it on this thread.
ps,
Please use some facts when coming at me..
Like every other profession, there are good teachers and bad teachers and I suppose liberal ones and conservative ones.
I personally think that Advocate is a damn good teacher.
I just mostly wanted everyone to know how much I value teachers and what they do for our kids.
