Switch up breakfast and switch up the metabolism. Here are some hints from Dr. Mercola. He's busting the breakfast myth.
* The most common mistake people make is in eating typical breakfast foods, most of which are highly processed and loaded with sugars. This includes waffles, cereal, toast, muffins, bagels and other breakfast sandwiches. These are some of the absolute worst foods you can eat. They satiate your current hunger but set you up for metabolic disasters and fuel excess body fat and obesity-related diseases.
* Eliminate excess carbs and sugars and watch the pasteurized dairy!
* When making sure to get enough protein, be careful of the fat - Mercola lists the healthy fats in his article. Olive oil, coconut oil, etc.
* Healthy Breakfast? Try organic, pasteurized, poached eggs or something you would normally have for lunch or dinner.
* Implement Intermittent Fasting. Schedule your eating. Try to eat during a 6-8 hour window each day to shift the body into fat-burning mode. See the article for more details. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/04/01/breakfast-mistakes.aspx?e_cid=20130401_DNL_art_1&utm_source=dnl&utm_medium=email&utm_content=art1&utm_campaign=20130401

As for me, I finally broke the plateau! Down 3 pounds, from 157 to 154. I've switched things up a little. Some days, I get on the treadmill before getting breakfast. I've stopped having the same breakfast of eggs every day (as of late) and thrown in my breakfast smoothie here and there. Something has clicked to change the metabolism. Reading Mercola's article was a good start.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
That one brief moment of motivation changed my life. You don't have to be in shape (of any kind) to start working out. You just have to show up and start doing something. Someone else mentioned this somewhere, but we just have to put our ego aside and accept the current state of our weight / fitness and start working to improve in any little way.
On my first day with the trainer, I couldn't even do 1 sit-up and my lungs were so beat from a recent pulmonary embolism that I had to take extra breaths between each repetition of the exercises. Now, 5 months later, I've lost 40 pounds, I can run a 5K and I'm doing 100 sit-ups at a time and 25 push-ups (on my toes!).
So look for that small spark of motivation in your life to take that first step. Don't wait for a huge burst of motivation. Before you know it, those small steps will add up.
You're right about the motivation factor. Whether it's to continue with your lifestyle change, losing weight or going to the gym.... we all need a driving force to get us there.
For me it was something as simple as a number on the scale. I know that doesn't matter. I was very close to it and am looking and feeling great but there was just something about the number!
Once I reached it, I told myself, I would start going to the gym. DH is paying a small fortune monthly and he's the only one who goes. I promised him and myself that I will go once I reach 140.
Funny thing is the weather is turning bad..... there is a huge ice storm on its way this evening and it's going to start just after the evening rush. Great. I had made plans to go to the gym with my neighbour and I have a feeling that we're not going to make it!
BTW, I feel that I should explain why I chose to wait to start exercising. My main reason is because I wanted to lose the weight on the scale and see progress. I know that by staring a program of weight lifting, for example, I would have built up muscle and that would not have budged the scale.
Now I know exactly how much weight I have lost and what size clothes fit me well.
I dropped 4 dress sizes.
I'm ready for the next phase....
@Clover: I will reward myself with a non food item! I was just trying to be funny about the cake thing. I actually don't like cake but I know I'll have to eat one piece. My MIL just told me last night that she is throwing me a party next week when family comes into town!
Not sure if I have posted my actual weights in here before but here are the stats:
Starting Weight (SW): 330
Current Weight (CW): 298
I haven't been under 300 in almost 3 years, so I am extra excited!
Can't wait to start exercising and keep momentum going!
