Hi Everyone,
I need to offload this...I am a few weeks into the mediterranean diet but I am really romanticising chocolate. I feel like I am going to back to my old unhealthy eating ways as I cannt stop these thoughts about how good it was when I could indulge in creamy desserts and lots of chocolate... this is the problem I always have.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

Food can be a great source of pleasure but I think you can use that to your advantage. I'm so busy learning of all the garbage that is in any processed foods, including chocolate, I won't touch it unless it's at least 80% dark chocolate.
I've found low carb recipes that help me out. The challenge for me is being sure not to get stuck into a particular habit. Low carb microwave English muffin in the morning and low carb chocolate muffin in a mug for dessert seems to be getting obsessive for me.
William Li, MD (Eat to Beat Your Disease) has a fabulous perspective. He doesn't believe in diet, per se, but says if we concentrate on getting foods that make us healthier every day, we won't have room for some of the others. His diet of preference is also Mediterranean plus Asian, which he calls "Mediterasian." I found his masterclass for his first book on YouTube if you'd like to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2AClXqx2pY&t=125s&ab_channel=Dr.WilliamLi
I've been following a keto, intermittent fasting way of eating. My menu can't include so many things due to the MS so, I'm constantly learning new things to get the most out of my "food window." I hope you get a lot of suggestions here.
When I did a version of keto years ago, I thought I was dying. It was a very hard diet and I was forcing it down. I can't do keto now, because my blood sugars and insulin are great now woo-hoo!
But that diet is very strict. Mediterranean diet or close to it isn't so bad. I like beans and lentils and quinoa and less meat. But the chips and chocolate and junk food is my problem. I love it way to much. And I have stopped myself lately eating those things for health, then on high stress days I said F it. You are not alone!
Also, junk food is addictive and cheese.
I can't have any dairy products but I can have unsweetened coconut milk and so delicious brand unsweetened coconut milk yogurt. I've never had a problem with blood sugar but I still get benefit from watching carbs. Processed food isn't real food so I have no problem staying away from it.
