Hey y'all. Not sure if anyone will even read this, but here goes nothing... So, I'm new to the whole support group thing. I'm not sure how often I'll post, or if I'll even post anything after this... But, I've kind of hit rock bottom--So, I kind of figured joining would be a good place to start to get back on track. I get support from my family, but they don't understand. They don't encourage me to stay away from the foods I shouldn't eat... In fact, they usually justify junk food with, "a little bit won't kill you." But, that's not good for me. Once I fall off the wagon, I'm off completely. But, I recently decided that I'm sick and tired of sitting around and just crying about being overweight, I need to actually do something about it.
My weight used to be pretty steady around 140-150 (which is still a bit overweight for me, I'm only 5'3). But around April of 2015 my health took a bad turn.-- I was placed on a high dose of prednisone to treat Sarcoidosis and Uveitis, I found out I have an under active thyroid, and I was diagnosed with PCOS and depression. And within a year I gained 100 pounds. Since deciding to finally take losing the weight seriously, I've lost 10 pounds. But this last week, I've found myself in a rut.
I'm finding myself especially frustrated because none of my clothes fit me anymore. I don't want to go out in public. And my body is covered in stretch marks (some of which have ruined a few of my tattoos). I'm also definitely feeling the affects of the weight on my overall health. I have developed gastrointestinal issues, my depression has gotten worse, my body always hurts, and I get winded very easily.
I don't know where this is going to go, or if coming here is going to help me... I figure it certainly couldn't hurt. But, that's all for now.
If you've read this, thanks for listening.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

I spent a few seasons in Weight Watchers and one of the things I learned was that all the times anyone says, oh, it's a holiday, or you have to treat yourself for this occasion or that. We have to keep in mind that if all these occasions add up, they amount to a solid month of unhealthy eating.
Anyway, you're not alone here. You should check out the Weekly Weigh-In. It's a good way to share ideas, read something that may be helpful, and be accountable for the weigh in. No judgement, just support.
I can so relate to the junk food "all or nothing ", the "prednisone weight gain ", I gained about 40lbs on it.
And the feeling horrible and the not quite sure how to help myself. Things have gotten better for me, but still an uphill battle.
You will find different people will relate to different aspects of your situation and you can learn from us while we learn from you! I havn't really made new ds friends in awhile, but I think you and I would have plenty to discuss.
Your family can't be everything to you, I think they probably just love you at 250lbs or 125lbs, and that's a good thing. :)
So, please, come back and lay it on us.
