I honestly would just like someone to explain to me why cutting myself is bad. I used to do it frequently, but I haven't done it in a long time. The only reason I fight the urge to do it, though, is because I'm told it's bad to do it. I really don't understand why if it's not hurting anyone else, and it's a cathartic tool that helps me feel like my depression is less... unmanageable/unbearable on the bad days. So, why shouldn't I cut myself if I feel like it makes me feel better?

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

Working out is a healthier alternative. Instead of cutting your flesh with a knife, make your muscles cut, ripped! If you're into physical pain, to mask emotional pain, why not cause yourself physical pain that yields a healthy result, physical strength, which also causes spiritual strength and peace!
It was a summer camp, and my first job as an adult. We had a child psychiatrist who did training with us on mental health and she talked about signs to look for on teens who may be mental health risks, and she mentioned seeing cuts or girls having blades without razors. That was the first I really thought "OMG - Do I have mental health problems?"
Sounds odd - right? But that was not something openly talked about at that time. and having mental health services of any kind was almost unheard of. Through some self reflection, though, I realized that the problem was not so much the cutting as it was the internal pain I carried that I used the cutting to help me deal with.
So if that was the reality, what did I need to do? What I wanted to do all along - make the pain stop.
You are in charge of your life - not just the physical parts, but everything else too. You have the ability to make the pain stop. It won't be hard, and it means facing the things that caused the pain in the first place, but you can do it - I believe in you.
You deserve to be happy. You deserve to feel loved. You deserve to feel in control. You deserve to not have a reason to hurt yourself - not through any means. You are beautiful! You are strong! and I believe in you!
