Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
As the title reads, I'm starting over at 41. I'm Autistic and was on disability for the last three years. I'm finally ready to come off of it and get going but I'm scared of going back to work. I've had three careers since college: security guard, information technology, and truck driving. I was unable to go back into Information Technology and security work is paying the same amount of money that I earned in 2004. That leaves going back to driving an 18 wheeler.
I guess I'm lucky that in the three years that I've been out of driving, demand for drivers has increased because I was hired within 4 hours of applying. Being a trucker is a lonely and stressful existence but the money is at least halfway decent.
I'm a bit nervous getting started working again. Tomorrow I drive to orientation for Schneider National. I feel really sorry for myself but I'm going to make the best of this.

I have made a shitload of bad decisions in my life. But I choose to be a success in spite the mistakes rather than be a failure because of those mistakes.
I have often thought about being a truck driver. I love being on the road, going new places, meeting new people. Truck driving has always struck me as an exciting career. More exciting than my life as an accountant lol.
Anyways, good luck and " keep truckin'" - sorry, I couldn't help myself...
Your new job might surprise you! Once you get going, it will be easier.
I'm starting over at 30, I know it must be much harder at 41. I already feel like an old geezer. My friends and family are all scattered to the winds. I'm about ready to point to a random place on the map and move there lol. Here's to our future journeys. The road is lonely, you must find friends and companionship wherever you can. I believe in you!
On a side note, might I suggest professional massage. It's good for truckers--sore muscles! And it's also supposed to help Autistic people feel more connected and at ease.
sometimes the situation is beyond one's control and the crap hits the fan
sometimes one's choice's cause the crap - fan interface (yuk, nasty pun)
one should look back and learn about life or oneself
