Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

This past year has not been great, with the exception of healing from a really bad injury and taking an international trip, it's been pretty bad, ngl.
I got my Master's degree last December, but having fallen and breaking my leg in two places really set me back, so I was not able to start looking for positions until April. In February, my mom fell and broke her hip at the same time that I was recovering from my break. It was very bad, she was in ICU and then in a care facility for two months. It was terrifying.
In mid-January, a close friend died and no one came to her memorial. So terrible. That entire friend group broke up. I tried to hold together whatever realtionships that I could, but people didn't have tolerance for my injury or my being out of commission. One of the 'friends' stood me up not once, but twice for dinner.
In August, I finally got hired into an engineering firm which I really loved, but had to leave becuase they not pay the wages, so I returned to a position that I truly did not like and have been working there since-have been with this agency for two years.
About two weeks ago, my mom fell again-breaking her ribs and collapsing her lung. I'm so upset about it, she is back in a care facility. Meanwhile, I'm going to lose my therapist for the third time in eighteen months because of the changes to health insurance yet again. I have to go back to physical therapy though my bone is healed, there is soft tissue damage and a ligament is stretched out. I do not plan on surgery, suggested or not. I had my ACL done on the other knee and that is a huge deal.
Earlier this week, I randomly got an email stating that my current assignment at the school is being shortened to five weeks rather than the total eight. I was not communicating much with administration or the rest of the team much and could tell that they didn't want to be bothered. I was teaching an elective, combining some writing skills with website building and graphic design, which I studied in my degree. Students talked loudly over me through the whole lectures, many of them were fighting, arguing etc....I had to call for backup a lot and I could tell the office was tired of it. No one turned work in, maybe like five percent. I found out that without my consent pictures were being taken of me and put on the internet (exactly the reason trying to get out of this career) . I told the principal, and she said, "walk around more."
I asked the secretary on Tuesday that I noticed that the assignment was to end on the 21st rather than in December, she was acting really weird and avoiding me and then says, "They are going to talk to you." I had no idea what it was about, it sounded ominous. She said the same thing Wednesday in a really weird tone, I came home and thought that this was just too much for me. I took Th and Fr. off for family illness reasons, I don't want to deal with some big drama, I have way too much on my plate. So I signed up for other assignments in December.
I was here yesterday, Friday, and get this dramatic message from the principal to call her back-so I do. She explains to me that I don't have control over the class, which arguably is true, but then goes on to tell me that she had already discussed this with me. In reality it was a passing comment as she walked by me, saying, "walk around more." I never saw her the entire 4-5 weeks I was there, that was it. She says not to come back to their particular school. Ok, fine. But what gets me is that next she tells me that she is going to file an incident report-and I'm thinking to myself, 'what is the incident...' She asks me if there are any questions. I say no, that there are not questions, but that I felt like I came to the end limits of what I could do there and that the student defiance was next-level. The principal had asked students not to eat snacks in the class anymore and I conveyed this to the class. They laughed at me and said that they would do what they please. I told her this, and she apologizes, saying that they don't treat other people this way and that they were taking advantage of me. Ok, so what is the 'incident report' for?
I was a public school teacher for 18 years, mostly high school, had my own classroom. I've written a lot of incident reports-I sure have not had one written about me- up until this time. I get the feeling something is being left out here. What gets me is that the pay rate was set to go up dramatically on Tuesday, the day they took me off of the assignment.
I honestly don't know what to do, I have this big master's degree from an engineering school and here I am still dealing with this-I had planned to be out of this drama a year ago, it infuriates me. And I am extremely concerned about my mom.
Per the advice of a social worker, i submit my paperwork to vocational rehab. They have job placements, recruiters and counselors. I may qualify due to intermittent visual impairment. My migraines are so bad that I occasionally can't see. One hit me so bad about two weeks ago I had to get up from my desk and thought I was gong to have to call uber to get me home.
I had an inkling not to take this assignment. I had seen it in the dashboard and remembered a year ago how when I was on a two day assignment, I was walking with a teacher to assist Kinder to the restroom. She turned and shouted at me to "go back to the classroom!" I was stunned. I had remembered that incident and hesitated to return, but thought this would be in a different department and location. I think I should have followed my inlking but I wanted the work.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

Does anyone follow her? She's really got some good tips.
I hope that she will heal Godspeed
If possible I try not to lump large periods of time and several events into the same basket as it becomes completely overwhelming and we can start catastrophyzing
It can really bring you down
I hope that things will work out at school if you decide to keep teaching
I'm sorry that you haven't been able to find the type of work that you hope for
Big hug...xo
And we were all kids once. When I was a kid, I've seen other kids just be awful and disobedient on purpose just for kicks. I don't think it's personal.
I hope you and your mother get well soon.
I know you are out of there but try to focus on the few kids who wanted to learn. It’s not personal to you how their behavior is. They are acting out their own inner emotional pain.
Your poor mom, sounds like she’s also had a rough time.
Take what you can that was helpful to you and a learning experience and try to move on mentally from that teaching job. You can’t fix it nor can you change that learning environment.
