Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I have 1 close friend, & she is moving across the state next summer. Other than her, I have no real, close friends. I am somewhat of a recluse, & I know that is my fault. I find it almost impossible to go out & be social & dont go anywhere other than work, grocery store & my volunteer job. I have my "school friends" I work with, but my husband & I dont socialize at all. We live in a small town where everyone gossips about everyone else & knows everyones business. That doesnt help...as I am way past the age of enjoying that sort of thing. I find it hard to trust other women because I have been hurt soooooo many times, & that makes my depression worse. Any thoughts??

Well I'm in good company seeing how many people live isolated lives on here. For the most part, it's me, my dog and my cat. I have a husband, but he is mostly gone and when here he seems like he's still gone. So my dear friends, you are mostly all I have. thanks for being there. Susu

I have one true female friend, one male friend, and many acquaintances. I will take my two friends over 100 acquaintances any day of the week. I also have friends here at DS that I care about greatly and feel blessed to have them as my friend. The quality of friendship is far more important then the quantity.

I live in the same small town I grew up. I have no friends. I was never well liked growing up. My depression gotten worst after high school. I don't chase after people anymore. I am working on finding better things to do with my time. It hurts that I have no friends to talk to.

Seems like a lot of wives here with husbands that just aren't really there. I don't know what it would be like to experience that, but at least there is someone there...sort of. Twiggy as far as the hb not being there for you in your time of need...that's horrible.

Jackfish, you are right on! Maybe it's because depression is more prevalent in women? I hardly ever meet men that have depression, just on here..anyway, most guys just dont get it. My husband has never been depressed a day in his life, & I know he gets impatient with me because he doesnt understand what it feels like. A big part of me is glad he's not depressed to, that would be doubly horrible!

It's funny I used to get so upset with my mother....why can't you just do this or just do that...when it comes to not being depressed or thinkiing negatively. I now know why she couldn't, it's not so easy to do it...is it ? Now that I am in the same boat I now know why it is so easy to just stay under the covers or not do anything at all. I never thought it possible and thought if you don't want to be like that...you don't have to. Sometimes ...it's just not possible. God I hate this, how it comes and goes, good and bad days, want to help yourself can't help yourself. I"ve read so many self help books about your mind and how you can create what you want. I try so hard knowing it is so true but then feel so defeated at it beats you down. All you can do is keep trying and never give up. The more you let it grab hold of you the easier it is to just give in the next day. That's why you can never give up the fight....and fight you must.

I'm with you. I, too, am from a small town. There are no real friends to be found around here, and the friends I do have live far away.

wow sounds like my life gordos4. I can sure relate. Small towns= small minds. I trust no one here ive been the brunt of gossip so i know what you mean. Women do seem to be meaner in small towns. Im pretty down to earth not into material things like these other materialistic B****es around here where i live.

Another sleepless night for me watching mindless tv. Got a call from what I used to consider a friend here. Hasn't called me in over a year and a half ...tonight he calls to see if I could volunteer for something. Hah if he only knew how I am feeling right now.

My only real friend died in a car crash when I was 17. I have a hubby, but he doesn't understand what I"m going through so he just tries to ignore it. It's hard not having anyone to talk to. Not just about the depression...but just conversation in general. I have almost zero human interaction, aside from my baby boy, and he's not much of a conversationalist just yet. I wait all day for someone to talk to and my hubby just comes home and zones out in front of the TV while I cook his dinner. So ya...I"m a little lonely to day the least. I'm hoping coming here will help. It was recommended by my therapist.

Hi Lostwinter, I know what you mean about your husband zoning out in front of the tv. I've been told that men are fire watchers goes back to cave man time. The tv has now replaced the fire. I used to do that with my partner...how i would change that now if I was ever given a second chance. It will help being here that's for sure. Almost always someone to talk to.

I'll be your friend!

Friends it is then. I wish there was a more quick response here. Sometimes it takes long for responses which takes away that one on one conversation I long for.

Everyday I feel more and more sick. Being in pain every day, I've learned to disguise it. So well that others don't believe my pain when I speak of it. Needing help but only receiving negative responses, I find my way but pay for it later. I absolutely need the rest but there's pressing things to be done.

Ugh my depression is really being triggered by the grief of losing my mom. Ugh it sucks. I wish this pain would leave me already.
