I think DS does a pretty good job trying to educate its members about privacy and to explain the difference between anonymity vs privacy, public content vs profile content, etc.
.
I don't think it makes a person dishonest to create a user name that is different from their real name. Anonymity does not equate dishonesty. If it did, that would make members of AA dishonest, which is hardly the case. Also DS strongly SUGGESTS using an anonymous username (see FAQ regarding creating an account).
Outside of the privacy protection component, if I become friendly with someone on DS, in private messages I will use my first name but I can tell you that I've grown quite close to, shared my deepest feelings and fears with, and have had the deepest fellowship with many members on DS over the years and yet, never knew their real name, nor have they known mine. I think AA even says that anonymity is a reminder to place principles before personalities. I like thinking about it that way.
Just have to be prepared to only discuss what you don#t mind sharing with the world wide web.
