It does perpetuate victimhood when you presume people with illness or who have suffered
abuse couldn't possibly understand or even contemplate how putting your information on line has some level of risk that it could be seen by other people.
I think your concerns are really more about you feeling vulnerable knowing someone could read what you've posted on ds. I do get that. But you are making an awful lot assumptions about other members being ashamed or embarrassed simply because of the problems they face. Give your fellow members more credit.
In the old days, ds was part social media site too, technically. And the ability to share and what was public, that's not changed either. It's just that social media has expanded since the old days, and ds is expanding with it.
I still maintain because of the extremely sensitive nature of some of the boards there will be sufficient number of members such that it's not really appropriate to have such a feature.
I don't know why this is being denied, I've seen people say this and leave.
Others will hold different views but I think there are, as said, sufficient people that don't want this for it to be a valid complaint.
We'll agree to disagree then and my apologies to the original poster for the hijacking of your thread.
Agreed. I did several surveys and people were universally against it.
"And if you know someome who can't, educate them. I'm not sure why this is being denied either. "
I'm not sure that was being denied. I'd very much agree if this was e-bay or something like that. But it's a site with a lot of vulnerable people and some are so busy trying to ask for help or telling their story to consider that DS is sort of encouraging reposting off site. This is often a problem when people first arrive.
And many of the CLs, especially on several boards have over the years made people as aware as we can.
The original poster asked whether it was true that stuff could be posted offsite so clearly there are member concerns. We can go all round the houses of why people should know better, why this should be expected etc etc, it remains a member was concerned.
Clearly other people are concerned and other than saying that is something that perhaps DS should take note off I don't think there is much point in seemingly trying to prove those with concerns they are not valid.
Some members have concerns. Full stop. That's it.
Edit: found the button.
This whole thing is somewhat pointless. 1) I've never known of anyone, ever putting something out on FB (interestingly enough, not even in the bad old days from the Breakups and Divorce forum where former spouses were stalking their ex's on here...)
And 2) since DS has basically never gotten positive publicity from the links...why they still want them is a mystery.
Well DS owns the site...so they win. Although just what that is...I don't know.
Just my unsolicited opinion...Patti
This is a support site. We should be there for each other. The 'original" DS had these "share options". and, there were times when I found a post that was very encouraging....very well said. But, I often communicated with the friend before posting, copy/pasting.
TeamDS has made it very clear to each person who join that ANYTHING OR EVERYTHING can be shared on other sites.
RESPECT!!!! again, I say RESPECT....this becomes an important thing with this, or any, internet vehicle.
Show respect, people.
I understand some people have issues with trust, respect....that is THEIR issue. We are here to, hopefully, overcome those issues.
This comment is directed at no 1 person. But, everybody needs to learn to respect each other.
Just my humble opinion!!!
