C O M M U N I T Y L E A D E R S Community Group
This is a group for Community Leaders and DS staff. Content posted by those who are not staff or Community Leaders will be removed. Posters: please remember that anyone who has a link to this group can view the content found in this group. Therefore, we should treat this group as if it were like any other public group on DS. Also, older content will be occasionally...
Hey Team,
I wanted to let you know that a small site update will be going out soon, likely tomorrow (12/07/17) morning.
Here is what is going out:
- When you create a group, the visibility options will now be “Public” and “Unlisted”, instead of “Private” and “Unlisted”.
- Other member’s content from unlisted groups should no longer show up in the popular posts area.
- On the Support Groups page, in the A-Z section, you will now see all support groups - instead of just the support groups that begin with a specific letter from the alphabet.
Some design changes to the menus at the top of the page are also happening.
- The hamburger menu (button with three horizontal lines) found at the top-left side of the page will be removed.
- The sub-menu on the home page which currently has links for “Friends”, “Support Groups” and “Journals” will be removed, and those links will be moved up to the top menu.
- On group pages the links which show how may posts and members are in the group will be moved to the bottom of the the group’s cover photo.
- The size of the top menu bar and group/profile cover photos will be changed.
- Other minor adjustments to the look and feel of the site.
I'll be posting a message in the DSMC once I have confirmation that the update is happening tomorrow.
Best,
Jesse

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

On a PC with Firefox it's smaller and magnifying the page leaves a large white space on the right.
But the bigger issue right now is when I hit "Support Groups" I don't see "My Support Groups" in the first row - I get "Support Groups by Category". So I can no longer easily go from one of my boards to another.
(Just to explain - since the move over the left hand side menu flashes up briefly in the top left and then immediately migrates to the bottom left so it's way down the page - this has been an issue for a long time but I've not been able to get it resolved).
As far as I can tell the A-Z is no different.
From them, it's not black or white as to good or bad. They make some observations I think are helpful to know. Here they are, from my original thread post to their replies so far.
"Site format changed?

I got up this morning and went through my usual steps on my laptop to log on to our DS PTSD site and had trouble right off the bat.
Then overcoming that, when I got here the physical format of the website had changed, even the colors of some things. Another was knowing where to click to get back to a vertical list of the titles of DS PTSD posts. I've always used that so I could get an overview in chronological order from top to bottom from most recent to older posts.
I'm getting used to it, but it's taking some adjustment so I wanted to ask. I want to know so as CL I can report back to DS about it.
Did anybody else have my experience with change and the website, too?
Replies:
Yes. Now there are ads. I hope that means they will be putting the revenue to good use,
Yes... this is weird... I was very confused when I first saw it.
Gee, I hadn't noticed.
***dodges thrown cream pies***
Yeah, very different. Smaller font size...I'm not sure that I like that.
I do like the FAQ and resources on the banner of DS before you log in. (And wish that they could stay on top?...maybe too crowded.
Two things I don't like.
1) My original FIRST request...which is that navigation to the last page/post be at the bottom AND top of each thread.
2) For this site...the original post seems to blend in with the replies...it's awkward.
What I do like are the very much smaller banners.

Good point about the ads. Yeah, that means revenue, and hopefully then more staff for website upkeep, you're right.
I know, though, I had confusion, too. With navigation, where banners are and what size they and fonts are. Thanks for letting me know how it is for y'all, too.
There's all sorts of size and stuff changes and stuff. WTF? It wasn't there at 7n AM when I was on early?
For me, it happened midstream, without interruption to the session. One click it looked familiar, the next click it was different. Gave me a bit of a tech-panic attack, but I got over it quick enough. I try to get over the different before I start evaluating better and worse.
Repeated the Title of the group again...under the banner. Is unnecessary too.
Also, I've had an issue with the light, light gray from the beginning. That's worse now. It would help to have darker lines surrounding the posts.
I've long been hoping that they would actually bring ads back (because I can't see how they can run the site without them), but the ad directly under the banner is annoying (although that's how it is on virtually every other webside...so I don't see that changing).
Ive left it logged in for last few hours. Reloaded the page and this new stuff came up. Really confused me. More change.
If they could center the title of the thread...over the Thread...rather than in the page??"

This is not happening for me. Are you using add-ons in your browser?
Thank you for all of this feedback! I will send it up the ladder!
The site now has breadcrumbs to navigate back to the list of posts. For example, above the title of this post there is text that says " Current Events / C O M M U N I T Y L E A D E R S Support Group". Both of those are links (I personally feel that they need to be a different color so that they stand out as links). Clicking on "Community Leaders" takes you back to the list of discussions in this group. Clicking on "Current Events" (which is the category that this group in listed under) takes you to the directory of groups and shows all the current events groups.

But I don't see it here:

I'll send this up the chain to see what is going on.
That makes me see dollar signs and hope for the DS future
Sorry but I'm not willing to turn my ad block off.
If the people who run DS think it's ok to have "Chat with Russian ladies" on the widows board is ok then really they should not be running a support site.
Equally to be told that in my area, naming the village I live in, that it's not safe to go out at night because of all the recent crimes (which there aren't any) just to sell me a flash light isn't nice either.
You didn't acknowledge the point that "My support groups" no longer shows up at the top of the page when you log in.
