C O M M U N I T Y L E A D E R S Community Group
This is a group for Community Leaders and DS staff. Content posted by those who are not staff or Community Leaders will be removed. Posters: please remember that anyone who has a link to this group can view the content found in this group. Therefore, we should treat this group as if it were like any other public group on DS. Also, older content will be occasionally...
Hey Team,
I wanted to let you know that a small site update will be going out soon, likely tomorrow (12/07/17) morning.
Here is what is going out:
- When you create a group, the visibility options will now be “Public” and “Unlisted”, instead of “Private” and “Unlisted”.
- Other member’s content from unlisted groups should no longer show up in the popular posts area.
- On the Support Groups page, in the A-Z section, you will now see all support groups - instead of just the support groups that begin with a specific letter from the alphabet.
Some design changes to the menus at the top of the page are also happening.
- The hamburger menu (button with three horizontal lines) found at the top-left side of the page will be removed.
- The sub-menu on the home page which currently has links for “Friends”, “Support Groups” and “Journals” will be removed, and those links will be moved up to the top menu.
- On group pages the links which show how may posts and members are in the group will be moved to the bottom of the the group’s cover photo.
- The size of the top menu bar and group/profile cover photos will be changed.
- Other minor adjustments to the look and feel of the site.
I'll be posting a message in the DSMC once I have confirmation that the update is happening tomorrow.
Best,
Jesse

Which explains the mysterious fevers and my extra fatigue. I'm so glad I pushed for answers.

Due to my increased paranoia, anxiety, and a panic attack over the weekend, my psychiatrist has put me back in a full dose of Zyprexa until further notice. Every time I think I'm getting ahead something happens and it's back to square one. I knew he was gonna do this but I can't help feeling disappointed. It is what it is.

as far as the ads, cause I really didn't understand, I went to google help.
https://support.google.com/ads/answer/7029660. you can also type in inappropriate ads and it will explain to you how to remove them.

Maybe read Cliffskat's reply?
We've confirmed that there are lots of adverts inappropriate on many groups - it's almost 50% of the ads that are inappropriate - you can't expect members to go off to find out how to do this - the level of computer literacy of many of our members means it is simply not a practical suggestion.
But DS has asked in the past for us not to turn off ad blocker - that is where the revenue is coming on. That is common practice on my sites.
If we now tell everyone to turn on ad block on then DS's revenues plummet and who knows what will happen.
Up until recently DS asked CLs and members to highlight inappropriate ads which occasionally appeared, click on the link and send it to DS so that that could blacklist it in the google feed.
What has happened is that we have moved from a very small number of inappropriate ads to something like 30-50% of very inappropriate ads.
DS controlled the ads before - obviously they now have a much larger task to block these ads (if they can).
I thought everybody was aware of this and understood the way the advertising worked on DS?
TY Jesse for all that you do
I think this has been the best update to date!!
DS is now a part of sharecare and Sharecare is choosing to run the ads. I really haven't seen people complain about the ads but Sharecare has to have the revenue from these for operations . the only other alternative is to make it a paid site which we all don't want.
Mrs Fish is getting the same.
Maybe it is because we are in the UK.
I prefer hot oriental ladies ... for some reason.
In my group at DS PTSD, members now are not reporting being upset by the ads or any other aspect of this update. It was the general suddenness of this update rattled them at first, as I reported to Jesse here at the start of it. Then, though, members during the rest of the week have quickly turned around and cheered the update's improvements, and a member from 10 years ago re-joined us.
Privately, I'd say that I'm the old timer still getting used to this update, but no big deal, I'll manage. I'd say it's looking good over all, I just have taken ill with bronchitis and need for my antibiotics to update my respiratory system before the Christmas holidays.
One of our US bipolar members has seen adverts for "Fillipino Cupid" on the bipolar site - this has nothing to do with their browsing history. So much for that somewhat distasteful inuendo.
So far it seems only to be us in the UK that are seeing the worst of the ads but I think it is still something that needs to be looked at because after all DS is supposed to be international.
I think alot of people use ad blocker which probably means DS revenues will be at the minimum because my understanding is that DS only gets money when people click on the ads - ad blocker means no clicks, no clicks means no revenue. At least that was how it worked on DS previously.
From that perspective surely it's better to get the ads right rather than tell people to use ad block and possibly trigger DS's demise?
I will continue to provide DS with the information regarding the "dating site" adverts and e-counselling and they will need to make their own decision.
If other Cls want to join in that's fine, if not, that's also fine. And if people don't like what I have to say I suggest they put me on ignore.
The ads are bad, the new font is harder to read, and I can't get even to my own board without a lot of effort, and oh by the way, here's what one of my members had to say - yet another angle on it:
"the newest changes to DS are intolerable. I post from my deceased husbands' OLD mac laptop. The nearest Apple store is 4+ hours drive away from me. New Ads take up almost half the forum page. I don't want to sacrifice my sentimental laptop to install Ad Blocking software. Funny, no other site has such issues.
I posted a new discussion topic today, but can not even see several of the sentences. nor can I access "reply" to answer what one member replied to my post. I clicked all over around the word "reply" and nothing clicks. kind of hard not being able to see line delineations or squares, etc.
Oh well, all things die or become obsolete eventually.
If this is not reversed it will eliiminate some members. I'm not the only 60+ yr-old widow here who may have to, for many intents & purposes, lose use of this site.
I have made one friend here who is in the same predicament. We may choose to correspond privately, off forum. That is not usually a safe option from such a public website. There are people here whom I consider "forever" friends, but not going to ask people to risk their private contact info in order to interact with me.
That is all for now. I will mostly glance at pages of other members posts for now. It's really "Not" adequate to post and be unable to follow up on other members replies. Oh well, such is life.
Good luck."
So apparently we have also introduced new problems for Mac users, too.
This upgrade sucks.
