Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
But then I ask myself would I go back to my ex ....I'll be happier alone anyday. Sigh
I'll add my two-cents worth. First, I think you are very brave to get out there on POF. I don't have the desire or the courage yet. Good for you for moving forward.
Second, I have to agree with Czarna. The fishing pictures show one of your favorite hobbies but the hat hides alot of your face. I would suggest spending a little money and going to a professional photographer (heck, Sears, WalMart all have professional studios that take great pictures for a small amount of cash) and having some photos taken in casual clothes for dating. The pictures on POF show your professional clothes and hobby clothing but a lot of ladies are going to want to know what you look like on a typical Friday night date.
Third, forget about the rating system. Who cares! It's what's in the profile that counts. In fact, I thought you wrote a very good profile. You were straight forward about what you like and what you want and you don't sound needy or clingy.
Don't despair--fix those little picture glitches and hang in there. You'll find someone.
Peace and hugs.
I had a few decent dates from pentyoffish...but I met my "match" on Match.
Online dating has it's pro's and con's. I liked being able to get to know someone before we ever went out. It worked for me.
Good luck..and your profile is great. I would try another site.
Its not you. Many times just to find one person in your area can be near impossible.
I have been involved with the sites from the time that match first kicked off.
Here is a little advice.
You can't just use any picture.
You need to dess well without over doing it. we all have a good side for pictures, thats just nature.
Don't write alot of dribble in your description. Over doing it is a killer with women. If you are fun loving and social....thats ok just don't give your lifes history....
Women like to find out who you are a little at a time. Nice and slow acheives so much.
OK girls don't slap me.
Women want to be heard. So that means that we as guys need to be prepared to listen, ask a few questions and sit back and take it in. In person you don't need to dazzle, thats for the guys with no confidence.
Just show that you are actually interested in what they are saying and that you are actually listening.
Why do I bring this up.
Cause you will get some replies, in due time. It does not happen over night.
People are so busy these days and time on the computer may be limited.....unless its the dead of winter and there is not much to do. So when one does respond, keep what I said earlier in mind.
Once you figure out what works for you, and it will take some time, don't think you can put a profile out there that took you five minutes to write and expect alot. Not downing ya dude just trying to help.
Find one or two online dating services. But don't spend alot of money on it. None of them can do what they promote. If you have your profile on a local one and a national one you might do pretty well.
Believe you me I am not expert, but like I said I have tried them.
I found the best way to meet women...life!
Living and having fun.
I know thats a hard thing after a breakup. Especially cause the confidence level tanks after a breakup. But with practice it all comes back. Just don't put so much emphasis on you being successful at it. Remember when we were teenagers and just started trying to date....oh man
But regardless of the fear we went for it, anyways.
Ok enough rambling ....
Hope it helps in some way...
Good luck and God Bless
I practice catch and release. I am big into live release because I am a flyfishing guide. Need to keep the fish in the stream for clients. I also force them to practice Catch and release. If you want to eat fish, go to the grocery store or seafood market. If you want to hang one on your wall, take a picture and have a reproduction mount made. That was a very delicate native brown trout in that picture. I can assure you that I took all the necessary precautions to keep him alive.
Enough of being on my soap box. I think that I may try a pay site.
Plentyoffish has been a big strike out for me. Most of the people that I talk with don't respond back. I think the whole separated things scares them off. The other part to it I am not really sure. I tried being straight forward and honest but I think that I am scaring people away with that.
Humor is nice, but I still think that people are looking at my profile and moving on for some reason or another. It is really hard to tell people who you are just by pictures and a little statement about your likes and dislikes.
I guess that the women are viewing me as damaged goods because of being separated. I was afraid of that but it would be untruthful to put myself as divorced because the divorce hasn't gone through yet (I might as well be divorced because there is no way that my wife and I will get back together).
This sucks
Don't pay attention to that rating thing--it's obviously junk--you may not want someone who is so shallow that they would base their opinion of you on a picture!!! If I can remember from one of those forensic shows--Ted Bundy was considered very good looking, he was a serial killer.
"Better looking than Ted Bundy."
