Found out few days ago my wife has been having an affair. She says it because something has gone wrong inside of her. Family losses and pressure of her job have damaged her. Instead of taking to me she felt better to talk online to a stranger. This led to her lying about work trips to meet up with them. Found out by answering her phone whilst she was asleep. We've had to spend a lot of time apart because of the pandemic but she always came home with a smile on her face. Nothing changed in her behaviour to me. We still had sexual contact and she told me every day she loved me. Now I know she's vacillating between she loves me and wants to work on things and the opposite. Tells me she's taken me for granted. Her hatred of her behaviour is clear. Part of me wants to tell her to just go and the other part I'll be giving up to soon if I don't give her a chance to find herself again. She's arranging counselling to deal with her not feeling herself. This behaviour is totally out of character for her. Is not seeing this other person again but tells me she can't break off all contact. That this other person has health issues going on. Am I being an idiot for not telling her we're done.

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

She MUST break off ALL contact with the other person, or your relationship will not survive.
If a person is truly remorseful, and wants to work on their marriage 100%, then they have to cut all communications with the affair person. No exceptions. No "staying friends". No nothing.
You will probably need counseling for yourself, as well. You have just been through a lot. Find yourself a good therapist.
She must work on your relationship with 100% effort. Cheaters lie, so keep your eyes and ears open.
Take care of YOU. You are the one hurting. Make sure and take good care of your health, and mental health, etc.
Let us know how it goes.
I'm sorry you're in pain, I can relate to the pain and hurt. You're not alone.
Though challenging, some couples work through the mistake, feeling there is something there truly worth saving. Key word being mistake.
