Around a year ago my husband of ten years literally changed over night... it was like someone pressed a switch and the person I knew was 95% gone. He was diagnosed with depression although I'm sure he had a mental break down, he moved out of the family home to work on himself but we stayed together. He started putting me down a lot, saying I had contributed to the depression etc... infact I was subjected to a lot of verbal abuse. In December I found a trail of inappropriate messages between him and a work colleague, and subsequently found out they had shared a kiss. He promised to stop all contact with her and I believed him... we went to marriage counselling and he attended individual counselling to work on himself. He still hasn't moved him but things in general had been better. He started a new job about a month back and I had started to question where he was going some evenings... the nastiness started returning. On Saturday when he was supposed to be working.. I followed him 1.5hrs where I found him walking out the cinema hand in hand with the original call at his old work. I have fought and fought for our relationship this last year, to help him get through all his emotional baggage. His torrent of emotional abuse has left me broken and questioning the person I am... and yet I still love the person he was beyond belief... for those 10 years before this happened he was everything I ever wanted. How on earth do you take the steps to get over this and become a person that can trust again?

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

From what you wrote, he does not have depression, as in clinical depression. It sounds to me that, for whatever reason, he was unhappy in the marriage and he started an affair with that co-worker. A truly "depressed" person would not be out dating another woman. So, please do not believe the lie he is telling you about being depressed.
You are not to blame for ANY of this! If he wanted to see her, then he needed to be a man and tell you that he wants out of your marriage. Him having an affair behind your back, and still lying about it, is not the sign of someone with depression. That is the sign of a cheating husband.
So first, stop blaming yourself for any of this. None of this is your fault. He made his choices. He knew what he was doing.
Now the question is, what do YOU want to do now? You need to decide if you want to stay with a person who cheats, lies, and was willing to throw away your marriage of 10 years. Since he does not appear to want to even try, or move back in (he won't move back in because he wants to see this other woman), then what choices do you have, really?
You didn't do anything wrong. He changed. For some odd reason, he wants this new kind of life. It is not fair and it is so wrong that he is doing this. But, you can not get him to change. He has to be the one that wants to change, and he has to be the one that wants to fight for your marriage, 100% all in.
Keep going to your individual counseling. And, talk to your family, friends... tell people what is going on. Oftentimes, the betrayed spouse becomes isolated. Tell as many people as you can, because you need support right now.
It is so hard when something like this happens. You think back to the first 10 years, and how great they seemed. But, he has changed now, and it is doubtful things would ever go back to how they were during the beginning. It would be hard for you to trust him again.
No matter what happens, you are going to be okay.
