Animal preferences?

I have noticed that a cat seems to be an animal that women will have more often than men and men will have dogs more often than women.

This isn't set in stone, but I think that if you were to survey preferences you would find that women, in general, would prefer cats and men would, in general, prefer dogs.

I wonder why that is?

I love my kitty...and yes I am a woman which definitely fits into your theory.
Dogs are sweet too---but they make me sneeze...so I won't ever get one

My kitty is the onle male who truly appreciates me :)

Well, I am the type of woman that would have both, a dog and a cat. So I prefer both. Why does a woman have to have a cat not all women like cats, my mom doesn't like cats, or dogs but I like both.
