Animal preferences?

I have noticed that a cat seems to be an animal that women will have more often than men and men will have dogs more often than women.

This isn't set in stone, but I think that if you were to survey preferences you would find that women, in general, would prefer cats and men would, in general, prefer dogs.

I wonder why that is?

I like both cats and dogs. I have a cat now. Cats are more practical. I can be gone all day and I don't have to worry about her.

I agree with your observation heavetoo. There is a special bond between a man and his dog. I don't really know why but maybe it's a dominance problem? Dogs can be easily dominated but cats can't. I don't want to put it in a negative way, but evolutionally men had to be stronger because most of the time they were the ones who hunted and brought food to their settlements - have I gone too far...? Women prefer cats because they look cute and are cuddly - it's that soft and fuzzy feeling that I like the most about my Kitty...

I can't stand dogs to be honest, but I would if I had to. But there has to be a limit on how many. Same with cats (I am a cat person)..more than 2 is too much

DOGS!!!! I love my dog, he understands the pain I'm in and comforts me. I need him and he needs me.

I'm a dog person.....cats are too aloof. But I'd gladly get a cat if it would make my husband move out....he hates 'em :)

I love dogs but am allergic to them and can't have one in the house.

I have fish--easy to care for, no litter box to clean, and they don't chew up my shoes.

big dog lover. hate cats. saw girl attacked by cat when i was 10 years old. then a patient whos cat bit him pretty badly in the hand. yes these cats were startled and thats why they did what they did, but, i still don't like cats.

Love all animals but have cats and looking to save another this week. The animal shelter see's me coming and brings the kittens to the front desk..LOL. Cat man here... :)
