Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

When the credit card got declined yesterday for being maxed out I realized I was well on my way to a full-blown episode if not already in one. My computer can't load ANYTHING fast enough for my brain, about 13 unfinished, expensive projects started all over my wrecked house, and can't stand turning the music off for ANYTHING. Seroquel stopped working for sleep too but I don't want to take even more. I have an awesome therapist who actually understood that I didn't want to tell my psychiatrist because the only fix for bipolar seems to be to drug and suppress part of myself, and the Internal Family of Systems therapy technique teaches us to love all our parts, appreciate them, and find balance between them. I looked up productive things to do online while manic so I could balance the moral part of me and the energy with something good to do, but websites keep telling me to force myself to sleep, find calm things to do, eat when I don't want to, basically the same thing as everyone else, suppress this energy instead of using it. I figured this place was my best hope of finding someone who actually understands and doesn't just want to make me like everyone else. So, my question is, has anyone been able to successfully harness the energy and be productive without getting TOO high leading to financial problems and depression? If so, can you let me know what techniques you used and what activities you found most joyful and also productive instead of destructive? I want to clean my house but I can't seem to focus on that I end up doing other stuff so that may not be a good fit for my mood. Tried to walk the dogs but can't find the leashes ANYWHERE, so maybe I will go to pests mart and remedy that. I just wish I could make myself more interested in cleaning because I really want to but I almost feel like I have ADHD when I am like this and can't focus on what I want. Either way, my therapist gave me hope that maybe I can love all parts of myself and learn to be balanced and happy, I just have never been able to do it yet, but maybe this time. I normally only get on here when I am depressed so I am thankful to be able to click that giant smiley face at the bottom and say thanks for all the support of just knowing everyone is here when I need them.

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

I think we deserve to love ourselves whole heartedly
However I have to comment from my perspective.... Bipolar is a disorder thus we often need medical help in order not to be unwell and not to have havoc in our lives
The only thing that has truly helped me when I am usually in a depressive state is some medical intervention and then tools to help along with it for coping
It would be great if we could just wish away the parts that are having negative consequences like maxing out credit cards however these are symptoms of the disorder that can really have profound effects on us once we stabilize again
Sending you a big hug of peace and healing.... xo
