Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Chocolate I don't like, but Key Lime pie I would kill for, so I buy those little 2 piece boxes and those 2 pieces have to last me 2 weeks, so I eat a half a piece at a time as a treat twice a week.
I like salty snacks, so I keep pretzels, wasabi peas, and sliced cucumbers and baby carrots for when I feel like munching.
I also keep Slimfast High Protein Shakes in the fridge, if I drink one around 9 p.m. then I don't get hungry at night after I do to bed.
There's always a big bowl of chopped salad in my fridge so If I want something during the day I eat a bowl of salad, to make it less boring I put sunflower seeds and cheddar jack cheese in it.
Any pasta sauces or gravies I make are homemade so I know what goes into them, meaning no tons of salt and sugars and preservatives.
And the beef and chicken I eat is very lean.
I never eat takeout.
But I don't consider how I eat a diet, it's a lifestyle choice, I've eaten like this for many, many years. And my brain is just trained to it. I don't have cravings for other things or junk food.
Great tips though.... TY.... I have to start buying just one slice when I crave something sweet....
It's true that you don't eat it if it isn't there
I definitely know that I have to exercise as well. I am on my feet for 4 hours a day
at the job- but a walk after lunch would be a smart thing to do so the lunch doesn't
go to belly fat or the like...
I definitely gained weight on psych meds, esp Seroquel and Zyprexa. But I lost 80 lbs back in 2006-07, which was psych med weight. Now, it's from prednisone, which I cannot take anymore, since it damaged my heart.
I definitely need to get motivated, and this sounds like a great way to do it.
Unless it has to be psych med related!!
I am planning for another surgery this summer that may also affect some hormone-related weight issues as well. As with previous surgeries, I know fitness and healing and eating right are important. Trying to eat “mindfully” at this point. Last night my snack was carrots with hummus. And then I was hungry later so I ate some trisquit crackers. I won’t sleep if I have the sensation of hunger! I will toss and turn.
I literally started eating way more the day I started Seroquel... sigh... It's been a struggle but I also buy things that I shouldn't
That alone should make a difference
Big hug Lady....
I finished my chips last night... I eat normal all day... I have no problem and take my Seroquel about 8 and then I feel famished... I don't know how to turn it off... Since it messes with your appetite centre I really can't
I think was OlderC wrote about protein is right... It is more filling
Rasberries and or Blueberries, Avocado, Banana, chia seeds, milk (almond, oat, cows, whichever), a touch of vanilla and a pinch of salt.
You can use frozen Raspberries and Blueberries from the Freezer. All these foods are High Fiber, Healthy Fats, and High Protein. So they make you feel full.
You just buzz them up in a blender to the consistency you like and have a yummy smoothie, kind of a nighttime treat.
I personally leave out the Blueberries because I don't like them. And I don't like Avocado's, but you don't taste it, it just gives a creamy consistency. The Chia seeds give it texture and are packed with fiber.
I keep frozen berries in the freezer, and buy banana's and cut them up and put them in bags and freeze them so when i want a smoothie, all I have to do it pull out the fruit and add the other few things. I also like mine cold so the frozen fruit does that job.
So I do get the weight battle.
