my son and i were talking the other day. i remarked that i was happy with my latest meds (we can talk about that stuff), and mentioned that i wish i had been diagnosed 25 years ago and had the medicines i have now and my life would have been easier.

He said, "Dad, i'm kind of glad you didn't, because i might not have been born."

Kind of put everything in perspective for me... it's not all about me, as hard as it is to admit that sometimes.

You always have dreams...it's up to you to make them happen. Mine was to become an Adult Probation Officer & I acheived that dream, despite being bipolar. Even though now I'm disabled, at least I an look back & be proud. You should go back to school & get certified. They have special programs where it may take only 2 yrs of college (if you already have a degree) to get certified as a teacher.

I think I may be one of the fortunate few, I was lucky enough to attain my professional goals. My disorder coupled with Lupus disabled me, and I had to quit working 28 moths ago. I was lucky enough to work all of my life, from 14 to 55. I MISS WORKING SOOOOOO MUCH!

I'm working on my career goal right now. I start my last year of school on Thursday so by May 2009 I will be a credentialed Middle/High
School English teacher. The BP has definitely slowed things down for me (as well as having kids) but I never gave up and now I'm almost there!

My dream for most my adult life was to become a doctor, and I know I have the smarts for it, but the depression and manic stresses have made me to the point where I have given up that dream and to become somewhat a burden on others. Bipolar seems to disable you until you feel like a burden and an asshole to friends and family, then they become estranged and your self esteme plummets. Its tiring to keep rebuilding over and over.
