My daughter has missed 22 days of school. The school told me today that any time after 10 abscences with notes they can fine me for not making my daughter go to school. She's been sick with constipation and it hasn't cleared up but is so sensative to any laxative prescribed that she gets the diahrrea instantly upon taking it. I called the nurse on making decissions for me today. She called last afternoon and demanded that someone pick up my daughter because she said she didn't want to see her in pain with a headache and stomach ache due to constipation. Well my daughter told me flat out that she hates school because her teacher is mean. And my daughter uses every excuse to get out of school if possible. I basically She really loves school but she only hates her teacher. I told the nurse that she hates going because she hates her teacher because she thinks that the teacher is too mean. I flat out told the nurse to stop living my life for me and making decissions that weren't hers to make and was a bitch and told her if my daughter wasn't ill with a fever and throwing up that she is to send her back to class on my orders not because she thinks she deserves to come home. I only did this because I don't want to have to pay a fine for being taken to court by the school because she's been missing too many days. The teacher is concerned that she is so far behind and doesn't allow my child any recess because she refuses to take her school work home with her and do it at home.
Did I do the right thing by being a bitch to the nurse and put her in her place?
I told my friend what I did and she bitched me out.
I know if I didn't act as a parent should and put the nurse in her place
then she would just decide on her own when my daughter is sick instead of letting me have the decission. I am a parent Where the hell
are my rights? I feel guilty only because my friend bitched me out and told me that being an asshole to professionals is a good way to make
enemies. I felt I was in the right. I don't need a fine I can't pay.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Tidbit - my son had trouble with constipation when he was little and we ended up using dried apricots....... not as harsh as laxatives and not as nasty as prunes..... they worked really well.
as for bitching out the nurse, she is only doing her job. your child is in no shape to learn if she is in pain. by sending her home it is for you to get her the help she needs
If your daughter really is sick and needs to stay home though, there should be a course of action you can take to make sure your daughter gets to pass the school year. Usually a doctors note is good enough to avoid fines.
If you really think the teacher is a problem, I would ask to have your daughter moved to another classroom. If you want to stick with the same teacher, then you might want to talk to the principal about how you don't like that your daughter is not getting to relax during recess. She shouldn't be punished for being sick and behind in school work.
Stressful situation. Hope things work out for you and your daughter.
You might try the same thing. Take her to the doctor and get a note stating that she is allowed to stay in school unless running a fever or messing her pants or vomiting. That way thier backs are covered and your back is covered to.
I will tell you that you should take your daughter to a Naturopath; he or she will tell you to make sure your daughter is eating vegetables, fruits and lots of water. If that does not help her then add Magnesium. Magnesium softens the stool. You can search the web to confirm this.
Thanks for all of the advice I got. time to go to class!
Definitely listen to your child about that teacher. I had a bad experience like that one year with my child and that was the second grade. He is now in the sixth grade and that second grade teacher was such a bully that he stopped trying and working at getting good grades for several years. She completely demoralized him and by the time I figured out what was going on it was way too late. He barely graduated that year and only because the new teacher figured out that he knew the work. This year in the sixth grade is the first year since then that he has started getting good grades again.
Change teachers NOW!!!! Listen to your child about that teacher...
By all means, get the medical help too, and the dried apricots will work much gentler like divine said, but don't hesitate about that teacher. Even if the only reason is a personality conflict, that is reason enough to change classes in my opinion.
You are the parent, and you most definitely have the authority to demand that they move your child to a different teacher. Start at the Principal and go up from there...
Be polite, but firm... Naturally, honey works better than vinegar at getting what you need for your child, but don't disregard what your daughter is saying either. She will respect you for listening to her and taking her seriously.
Hope that this is good input for you... I don't mean to preach, Sorry about getting on my soap box there for a minute... I just get so mad about that blasted bully of a teacher and what she did to my son that year. There is no excuse for that type of person in a school environment, and my son loves to learn, now, once again, finally.... (mouths quietly) Thank God!
