You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.
Another few days at my desk then MORE TRAVEL.
today is the beginning of DAY 17. On Thursday I actually did pull one hair, TOTALLY UNCONSCIOUSLY. I was standing in an office talking to a secretary trying to get her to give me a document I needed, and my hand automatically went up and pulled out half a strand of the hair with a knot in it. I didnt even notice until I looked at the hair in my hand and was like, damn, was that a pull?
I say yes it is because well, I did kind of pull a hair out (not by the root though) and I say no it wasnt because it wasnt a pull in reaction to stress, boredom or another strong emotion, which is really the behavior I want to stop. It was just some weird-ass non pull.
So anyway, I didnt put a sticker on my calendar for that day because I am STRICT, but neither do I think I am justified in saying my PF streak has ended.
So today is still day 17 and we have 16 whale stickers on my calendar (they are so cute, I need to take a picture).
I still have strong pulling urges from time to time but I NEED TO FIGHT THEM!!!!
I like your way of thinking and of course the whale stickers!! :D
VIGILANCE!!! So important and so hard!
You’re doing wonderful, keep on going girl! You can do this :)
I personally believe those subconscious pulls do count, and they need to be eliminated also. They are part of the problem. More vigilance is needed indeed! We have to be so aware all the time to prevent the subconscious pulls, which can happen a lot if we don't monitor ourselves.
Anyway congratulations on doing so well. I'm so happy for you :)
Hooray for vigilance! Try to remember not to touch your hair, and when you do have to, make sure you're extremely aware of everything your hands are doing.
Congrats on day 18! You're doing fantastic. :)

Tomorrow will be DAY 21, the infamous number of days needed to create a new habit. I think I accidentally pulled out 2 hairs during that time. And of course some other hairs came out when I would be running my hands through my hair. It's weird, when I was pulling a lot I never really noticed what condition my hair was in. Soon as I stopped, I started noticing all these knotty knots in my straight, fine, hair and boy do they drive me crazy.
What's more important is there have been so more times when I've wanted to pull because I am bored and stressed ... sometimes VERY stressed..... and I have RESISTED the URGE. This is what I want to continue doing.
Ok, let's go DAY 20.....
Do you feel amazing? Are you replacing your stress relief action of pulling with any other stress relief activity? I suggest deep breathing, it's free and works wonders!
Day 21, lets hope I keep it UP...
BOOOOOO.
I guess there are 2 hours left in the working day so at least if I use those to finish one of my pending tasks WHICH I SO DON'T WANT TO DO, I'll feel better.
Yeah good in theory, I wonder if I'll ever have the guts to go through with it.
Go on, get on to your projects! And maybe some loud jangly bracelets are the best barrier/ alarm for you at work.
Stupid procrastination.
I always think about saying something like that to my best friend in the office -- "if you see me fiddling with my hair or biting my nails tell me DONT" -- especially for my kind of work environment you definitely do not want to share personal or vulnerable info with too many people. It is cut throat!
Hmmm jangly bracelets are another good idea, I wish I could wire a siren to my elbow so it just goes off every time my hand goes near my head....
Siren sounds AWESOME!! Haha.
