Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I've been on Zoloft for a long time now and it's worked really well for my anxiety. When I switched on to it from Paxil my anxiety and depression couldn't have been much worse, so I didn't notice any increase in anxiety. As I understand it, 25mg is considered the minimal therapeutic dose, and it can take 4-6 weeks to build up in your system to a point where you notice the benefits. I'm not advocating you stay on a drug that isn't working for you or anything, just sharing what I've learned.
Best of luck with this.
Xanax and Zoloft are two completely different kinds of drugs. So, they will react in different ways.
Xanax is a benzo, and it works immediately and one dose lasts about 4 hours. Check with your doctor as to how often you can take it. It's more of an "as needed" drug.
Zoloft is an SSRI, and it takes 4 weeks, 6 weeks, maybe even 8 weeks to get the benefit. And it is to be taken every day, so it is milder acting, and you don't see results for probably a month into taking it.
Have you looked into getting a therapist? That would help get to the cause of your anxiety.
I completely understand about having anxiety about upping the dosage. I am the same way. Do what your doctor suggests. You already increased it and you were fine, so you won't get any additional side effects if your doctor wants you to increase it more. My psychiatrist says some people take as much as 500 mgs of Zoloft a day! So you will be fine. Check in with your doctor, as everyone is different.
It didn't take long for the zoloft to work for me, since the worst symptoms were present, and for some people, it can take a lot longer to feel the effect due to the way the anxiety presents itself.
Keep a daily journal to help you see what works when.
Best wishes as you find your better balance.
