Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
This week I would finally be one step closer to be done, at least that's what I thought. As you may know if you've read my previous posts, I was sexually assulted over a year ago, and this week was going to determine when this would finally make it's way into a trial. I went into that courthouse thinking I would have to sit up there on stand and give my testimony to a judge, my family, and that God awful monster at a priliminary hearing. After arriving I met with my case counselor, her assistant, my detective, and after over an hour of waiting finally my attorney. He told me that I had to wait for my case to be called and then I would get up there and speak, well sadly that wasn't how it worked out. After a solid two hour wait time in the basement, my attorney came down to have a word with my family and I. He told me that the case has now changed, that the steaks were higher, that this hearing may not happen today. Out of confusion I finally found out, this case became more than just one charge of rape against this monster, but two counts of rape, and one additional charge referring to an incident during the whole horrific time. While trying to comprehend everything that was going on around me at the time, another 30ish minutes had passed us by. That's when the attorney came back to tell me the news, as those four words left his mouth I lost my breath and could not believe what he had just told me. "He wants to wait" were his words, meaning this monster has now pushed this case even farther into the waiting process. I can't seem to handle myself these days, I can't stop thinking about the fact that I have to wait even longer for just a judge to hear my side be told, this never seems to be any closer to being over.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Gentle support while you wait out the legal process, Brea. Hope healing happens here.
You did your best.
The system does not always work in the way we were expecting.
Hold your head high, and be glad you were there.
You did your part and that's part of the process.
Your feelings are valid. Keep the feelings in a private journal so you can see the patterns of thoughts. This will help you heal even as the legal process takes time to move forward.
You are stronger than you realize.
If other charges have come forth then the prosecution teams may be going for a 3 strike rule. In my state that mean 20 - life. I don't think an offender should do less than the persons affected. But I also believe that his defense team would do everything they can to avoid the 3 strikes. I know this doesn't help your anxiety on it but maybe a help in understanding will give you some console. Sentencing depending on state and judge vary greatly. But if a standard is met then a statute takes effect..
Meanwhile I agree with Mid on you taking active steps for your healing. I am sorry for what you went through and how hard this is, but everyday you work through the pain is a win.
Gentle hugs and support.
J.
