Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Almost 8 weeks into increasing paroxetine from 10 to 20 mg, still not much help. At the end of next week, I see a nurse practitioner regarding meds, but I'm starting to lose hope that anything will help. Side effects continue...headaches, stomach/intestinal distress. A few websites say it can take up to 12 weeks to see improvement, especially if you're older, which I am. But how do you get through this distress in the meantime? My coping strategies don't work as well as they used to. Sometimes I just go back to bed, pull the covers over my head, and lay there for hours. Not a good way to live, but no way to get any help right now. After the holidays I hope doctors will be there.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...
I think I asked before, but were you doing better on the 10 mgs?
Sometimes, increasing the meds is not always the answer. If you were okay and functioning pretty well on 10 mgs, then I wanted to ask why increase the dose? Was it the doctor's idea?
I've shared this with you before, but my psychiatrist kept wanting me to increase my dose also. I tried to a couple times, but I felt worse (like you're describing) so I went back to my old dose and I felt so much better. Just because he wanted me to do it, didn't mean it was right for me. (This of course only applies to anxiety medications, not for all medications in general). I felt forced to increase the dose because he kept bugging me about increasing it.
It is hard to find the "right" dose for these meds. But were you okay on the 10 mgs? Maybe that is the better dose for you??? Just wondering...
I'll say it again.... maybe 10 mgs is better for you? You were doing pretty well, functioning okay... on 10 mgs??
Taking more anxiety medication is not necessarily better.
Being the guinea pig and trying all the different doses makes it so hard!!! I have been there, too.
Take the dose that works best for YOU.
I am no doctor, but it just seems to me that the 10 mgs is a better choice for you. Talk to them next week, be completely honest with them about symptoms, side effects you are having, what you hope to accomplish with the medication, etc....
You will be alright.
