Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hi all,
I posted a couple of days ago, anxiety for about 3 weeks, wishing like heck it would go away, mightily missing my old laid back self. I was visiting a patient today and realized that this feeling I have is very similar to grief. A lot of changes in the past year. Of course the pandemic and a departure from normal life. Disengaging from my parents out of necessity at least for now, youngest graduating high school and going off to college...etc. I have been making a list and crossing out things that make me feel crazy stressed and that makes me feel better, but just for a little while. Then whatever else is on the list rushes back in to fill the empty space and I have crossed off some real boogers let me tell you. I still find myself jumping right back into the "what if " game with the rest of the list. Maybe I let too many things pile up on me and this is the result. Maybe God had to make me really uncomfortable to get me to make some changes. Oh please, I will do whatever it makes to make this stop. This forum helps. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone, though I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

I can't quite empathize, but every case, chronic or acute, is unique. Gentle support while you work through you own unique dynamics.
And then we get to the historically unprecedented, viral strength anxiety of Coronaville. Even **I** can see an old me I'd like to get back too, but I'm not highly optimistic. Seems to me that yesterday is gone. We can only move on from here.
Healing hopes for all. No exceptions.
Now that that appears to be happening, the covid social distances look more daunting than the social distances I knew as a child prostitute.
Distract and disengage from the list.
I have found 'doing' thinking often brings me the calm I am looking for in a difficult situation.
Simply defining the next small step. I got the idea from "Getting Things Done" aka GTD, google it. But it's pretty genius and apparently there's science behind it too. From GTD, I've been trying to identify "Projects" in my life. A project is simply a to do item that has multiple steps or "sub-to-do's". Having broken down into chunks, the simple act of deciding on what the next little thing is really relieves some of the stress of the "project". In most cases it involves making a decision and not really taking action at all. In fact, most of the time is simply deciding what to do next and when. GTD is quite the following in the "personal productivity" world, there's youtube and books and podcasts a plenty. Check it out.
Prayers friend.
For myself, being able to figure them out means I can fix them which really means I can make them go away and I can stop being uncomfortable. But, I'm coming to understand that that's not how feelings work, They need to just be experienced and maybe, in the experiencing, we come to understand what is going on.
I'm sorry you're struggling, and I wish you strength and peace while you work your way back to a place of comfort.
