Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hi everyone, I understand there is a separate group for panic attacks but I feel more comfortable postijg here. I am diagnosed GAD and Panic disorder for 12 years now. Long story short, I've been in and out of therapy and an array of medicine. I am currently on Pristiq 50 mg and xanax .25 as needed. I KNOW my trigger is driving, particularly on highways and long distances. I get panic attacks that can be severe at times while driving but it shakes me to my core. My thoughts are hard to wrangle in and therapy (CBT) is just not cutting it. My mind can't simply accept the logical and being challenged. Yes, I know I can't die from panic but oh my gosh do I feel like it ! In that moment I sometimes wish I could just float out of my body to not feel & think those things. I feel like I'm not normal and have to bow out of vacations & any scenario where I know I'll panic. Can anyone relate?

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
To my senses, panic attacks are so solidly connected to my anxiety that I don't see the need for a second group.
Anyhoo. . .
Posilutely I can relate. It's normal-for-me and I believe it is an easily verifiable fact that a panic attack behind the wheel can be lethal to both myself and people around me. When I get hit with a full panic attack while driving, I pull over and ply therapy tools until I regain my full senses.
Audio books are my favorite preventative. They provide me a gentle distraction from my anxiety without distracting me from driving safely.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy Treatment Plans often have a specific assignment that provides the key - and if you follow it through, you'll be able to push your self past the 'panic' button moment. It takes a lot of work to do this.
Exposure is one of the easiest methods to figure out how to remain calm-using whatever tools you are already comfortable with and to add to it.
Best wishes as you find your better balance.
Driving is a series of tasks put together in a specific tool, with changing scenery and active motion.
It took me a long time to get comfortable driving until I approached it step by step and worked out the routine that allowed me to find calm in each part.
My experience with panic attacks is once I knew what a panic attack was and that I wasn’t dying, it became easier to get in front of it, so to speak, so that the affects were minimized and I could gather myself a bit before it completely escalated.
I take meds for my anxiety and my doctor thinks I will always have some fears and reservations. If your attacks are related to an accident you might try EMDR. Grounding techniques also help.

what If...i'm driving and I get a flat tire. ( what's the worst that will happen here and what action will I take if it does happen?) not sure if that makes any sense. Driving for me is peaceful time where I am the one in control and can decide where I am going. How does it make you feel? anyway, hope that helps some
