Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
My anxiety gets the worst at night. I overanalyze my whole life along with the people around me. I think about all the things I've ever done wrong, the people I've hurt and anytime I've ever been ashamed of myself. Once it starts I can't stop it, it's like a freight train building momentum in my chest and in the pit of my stomach. I try to forgive myself, and I try to stop thinking completely, but it just doesn't stop. I want to feel sure and at peace with myself and I will think I'm doing so good until the nighttime hits and I am literally woken out of sleep to feel like this for hours. Hoping this will help me turn my mind off and go back to bed.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
And? ? ? Did it help? ? ? Writing before bedtime and/or during bouts of insomnia is the best soporific I've found. Grabbing a subject off that freight train and developing it to a cohesive thought helps me slow the whole train.
You've taken the important first step in writing it out.
I have found that using positive words to help reframe the thought gives me time to stop the motion of the usual train.
Best wishes as you find your better balance.
For years he tried exercise, eating super healthy, trying to change his way of thinking thru self help. These things can and do work, but not in a permanent way for him.
He eventually broke down and reached out to his doctor and they got him a therapist, and put him on anxiety medications, serotonin, and something to help him sleep. He was in such a horrible state. Couldn't stop the night record player.
It's now been a month, and he's told me the medication actually worked. It took some trial and error to find the right combo. He says the rumination has finally stopped, he can sleep, and he's not going into panic attacks at night anymore.
If you knew my friend, you would say this was all pretty miraculous. He was so resistant to medication, and therapy...for years.
Now he's making future plans, getting excited about things, found a new job.
He admitted that he had a chemical imbalance, and medications helped so much. If you have tried other methods and they aren't working, definitely reach out to your dr and see what he can offer in helping you.
Sending you light and love!
I'm glad your friend is improving with the meds. It occurred someone might like to hear about something similar, but with a different cause and pill to take!
It sounds like a lot of people here also have experience with intrusive thoughts, they are awful and it feels like you just can’t turn them off. I get them throughout the day about various things usually me worrying about people I care about. But at night they center around me and anything bad I’ve ever done in my life.
I try to breath and remember I’m human and try to remind myself that these are learning experiences @zimea I will definitely have to try your method next time this happens it seems very therapeutic
Hope you all have a good Saturday, stay strong :)
