Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hi everyone,
I just joined this group looking for people similar to me. I have had anxiety all of my life. I am probably what most would call a "control freak" and I think that probably causes a lot of it.
I am looking for a group becuase I struggle to talk to my family and husband about my stress. They mean well, but tell me I "just need to get my stress uder control." This, of course, makes me more stressed and anxious becuase I agree with them. I wish it was that simple.
Anyway, I just wanted to find a support group and read stories about successes/struggles that you all deal with in terms of you anxiety.
I really don't want to do therapy at this point. Any suggestion on some great coping mechanisms for managing anxiety/stress?

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

I stopped sharing my anxiety with people who do not experience "distress". By changing the way I responded, reacted, and putting my well-being first, it brought about changes from their usual response. Sometimes, it got worse before it got better, however, it changed.
Anxiety is natural and is a part of us.
Welcome to the anxiety board at DS.
Remember you are not responsible for what others say, do, and how they react. You are responsible for what you say, do, and how you react.
I do like to recommend a book called MIND OVER MOOD:CHANGE THE WAY YOU FEEL BY CHANGING THE WAY YOU THINK. And FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY by Susan Jeffers I thing.
Both books helped me a bit and I’ve been using mind over mood for over six years.
My fear of therapy is my anxiety going on my medical record. That may be silly. But, I feel like doctors don’t take you seriously about anything when they see that anxiety on your chart. Do you experience this?
