Gastritis brought on by Anxiety...

Has anyone with anxiety develop gastritis? I am going to go see my doctor in a bit and want to discuss with him further the use of anxiety meds to help me with my currenty daily anxiety which has caused me at times to develop gastritis...which sucks!

I get moments of worry and anxiety pretty much on a daily basis but have not been prescribed anxiety meds. I am going to primary care doctor in a bit to discuss. Figure it is worth a shot to see how it does. Right now I am dealing with a few things in my life that are very stressful, worrysome, and cause anxiety. I am hope later in the very near future things will get better in those areas and I will not need anxiety meds. Thoughts?

I have never heard of Anxiety causing Gastritis, this is news to me. I hope you are seeing a Gastro doctor and not just an MD. I have both and I had the Gastro long before I got the Anxiety. I hope you will see a Specialist as well as your general Doc. Let us know what they say as I'm curious. Hugs GB

I'm so sorry you're having this problem. When I went to the doctor with these symptoms - as well as joint pain and general fatigue, she tested me for the MTHFR gene mutation and checked my folate. I have it. That means I can't convert folic acid into folate my body can use. My folate was rock bottom. And that can cause everything from stomach problems to joint pain to anxiety, depression and a myriad of other issues.

The test is fairly cheap (under $100) and the treatment is about $7/month - just a special sort of folate.

Never heard of that either. I have had anxiety for a long time and real severe since a breakup. So far no meds have helped it. Wish you the best.

I have a GI doctor. If you look up gastritis you can see that it can be triggered by anxiety. I guess various people react different. Anxiety can really effect your stomach and the stomach acids. I saw my regular doctor today about something else and talked about the excessive anxiety I am bringing on and he put me on an anxiety medicine as needed.
