Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I've been sober 39 days. Lots of positive things happening. Working out 6 days per week and back living with my girlfriend and son after brief separation. I feel very much centred. I've lost 25 lbs and have started refocusing on my business after taking a hiatus to address drinking. So... Today I wanted to challenge my drinking. I wanted to stop and have a drink or two and then shelve it for another 30 to 40 days to gain power back over the drinking. Is this normal? I feel a relapse looming and I want to know if people who are sober allow themselves a drink now and then to avoid the pressure building until it gets released in a negative relapse.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I read in a comment about binge drinking. That was/is me. I am certain that I was born this way and it just took as long as it took for me to turn full blown "can't control just one" alcoholic. When I drink just one, I no longer see the logic in pouring from the bottle. Why waste a clean glass? Or just sipping that beer, no, no time for enjoyment, just chug it and sip on the next one, and the next one and the next one.
I have been waiting for my wife to turn full blown, and for my next door neighbor to turn full blown. But now I think that maybe others are just capable of drinking a shit ton in the evening, or when they want, but control it. They may be blackout drinkers, but they can drink when they want. I can't drink when they want.
I think we are all different and that alcoholism can be many things. But once you know who you are, this is when you can start taking steps to improving your life, with or without booze. In my case, it has to be without booze.
Today is a white knuckling day. I woke up anxious, on nerves and with that 'sky is falling' thing going on. This is such a common thing. Time for a meeting, drink a lot of water, keep food in my belly, read posts here, comment when it makes sense, journal my ass off, pray, and rinse and repeat till I start to feel better.
I know booze will make me momentarily feel euphoric but not better. My alter ego will race to the front and start chugging away. I could end up in jail or dead if this happens, or both.
Just my Monday morning $0.02.
Have a great week.
You can see how that's just the Devil speaking... just one. Yeah, right.
BTW 25 pounds in 40 days! WOW. That was a LOT of alcohol.
Next time, instead of a candy bar, steam some veggies... ; )
May God be with you on your road to sobriety and help you along the way!
God Bless!
