its tough but she has liver and kidney problems and is holding fluid. We took her to the vet once and they drained the fluids and told us there is no way to cure this. The mobile vet is on the way ... fing sucks

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I know how you feel. During many years of drinking, my only true friend was a very wise female ginger cat. That cat could almost talk to me and unlike many cats, her affections were not always dependent on being rewarded with food.
Painful as it is, you are doing the right thing.
You are doing the right thing, and if the pet is in pain, the proper course is to eliminate that pain. This too shall pass.
We had another dog that got sick before the other dog I mentioned, and we got that other dog, and it helped heal the loss of the first dog, so I recommend getting a new cat to build a bond with ASAP. When the first dog died, it healed our family to immediate get another dog, when the second dog died, we didn't get another dog, and our grief for the dog's passing lingered a bit, so I recommend getting another cat if you can afford it.
