I go through strange patterns with my wetting. There are stretches of time in which I can stay dry for months, even over a year. Then there are times when I'll have 4 or 5 accidents in a week. The pattern starts to show during times of great stress, caffeine consumption, or depression, which seems to be the aggravating cause in my recent spike in accidents.
Dietary changes, lifestyle changes, stress management and meditation have helped a great deal. Two urologists were unable to give me a straight answer, and the only root cause besides stress is some type of nerve damage to the bladder. When it first started it brought about serious self-image problems and emotional issues. At age 19, that changed when I decided to start wearing diapers to curtail the mess and the embarrassment. I mostly wear them during the night, but in recent weeks I've had to keep some on hand during the day. I try not to rely too much on them because I know they don't solve the problem, but they helped me greatly in coping with such a problem.
This may be "second best" and it did take a long time to find a product that really works. The alternative - that i persisted with for a long time was to set the alarm to wake me up in the middle of the night (twice) -take medicine with side effects and often still find I had wet the sheets when the alarm woke me - or I had gone to sleep with the radio on but and woken up wet - the intention being I would listen until 2.00am and then go to sleep after a toilet visit.
Wearing protection gave me back a good nights sleep and some dignity. I have to wear protection on the day - away from home at least - and lead a busy life again.
I would not be ashamed of using a crutch if I needed to - and don't think twice about wearing glasses - should my tape on pad really need to be seen in a different light?
I gave up even trying to stay dry a long time ago, I completely accept and even enjoy that I was born a bedwetter -- it runs in my family. Trying and failing just made me feel worse about myself, so I stopped trying. Unfortunately I did let it effect my social life too much, but I eventually did get married.
It's strange to say, but true, that wetting has developed into a fetish actually. Making lemons into lemonade? I was so torn up about it a teenager, but now I wouldn't want to stop wetting myself even if I could wave a magic wand. Bizzare, but true.
Recently I'm losing my daytime bladder control as well, which is fine by me. I'm in a diaper 24/7 and happy as a clam.
