Hey, it's natural to be a little scared. A new situation where you don't know any people is scary for anyone let alone an alcoholic. I was scared out of my wits. I think we all were. I had been in my comfortable drinking state for so long, this was really stepping outside the zone. I didn't know anything about AA or the people. I was surprised to find there was a pretty good cross representation of the community there though.
Be determined, accept that it's okay to be scared, muster all the courage you can and 'go'. The people there have been through the exact same feelings. When your there, talk to at least one person, and tell them your nervous (if you can). If not, just listen, and talk about anything, even the weather, the footy etc. I couldn't do that chitty chat thing at first, but just talking to a few of the members made me feel a little more comfortable.
Let us know if you have any questions about AA meetings. After a meeting, you'll nearly always hear lot's of laughter. That's the sound of healing.
Give it a go, what have you got to lose?

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

I know this is stupid, but after not being able to find a job after graduation for almost two years, I ended up just taking an online teaching job because I couldn't find anything in my field. I was trying to get out of teaching and I feel so devastated. I felt this crushing feeling when I signed the paperwork and when I was in the meetings. I know that sounds so dramatic but it is how I felt. It...

Great thread. Thanks for bumping, G.
second meeting was when a guy I got drunk with dragged me to meeting...I was not so fearful but was proud of my stopping use of drugs in 82....so I heard from someone that maybe I was not alcoholic and could try to stop on my own...so I did that..stayed sober for over year...white knuckle sober...then drank in Hawaii when moving to Guam...in Guam I got another brush with AA from a guy at the public radio station I worked as volunteer at as I drank in station in front of him, and a board member...it went better than most for he took me to a social night that was held by the alanon people on their fun night of doing plays and skits in a room for fund raising...then my former sponsor was a co worker who announced he was an alcoholic at work and I connected...but I did not know too much and he was a sober alcoholic...I think I doubted he was sober so I asked him out for drink on last days of school where we taught...he introduced me again to AA and became my sponsor for first two years or so maybe three....
so I consider myself an archiological dig of AA people LOL they came and dug me out of the shit I was in that I had become buried by.....if not for their efforts to get me into recovery I never would have made it there....but I did and sober now almost 16 yrs (in June)
