About Me
I am a Biomedical Research Scientist with over 30 years of experience studying chronic human diseases. I have been deeply involved in the development of therapeutics for diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, chronic pain, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases and multiple other autoimmune diseases while employed at a major pharmaceutical company. I have a doctorate in human pathology and additional strong expertise in immunology, molecular biology, genetics/genetic engineering and early development. While I have not specialized in CFS/FM, I have worked on the discovery of new chronic pain and autoimmunity therapies and have spent many hours studying the pathophysiology of ME/CFS/FM. I am the father of 3 grown sons. My wife is also a medical professional. Most importantly, I have been diagnosed with systemic exertion intolerance disease (SEID/ME/CFS) with overlapping symptoms of fibromyalgia (FM). I also suffer from insomnia/severely disrupted sleep and chemical sensitivities. While I suffer from chronic fatigue and generalize musculoskeletal pain, the most devastating symptoms of my condition has been fibrofog and an inability to read for any length of time without dosing off, something I refer to as “reading narcolepsy”. My illness took a turn for the worse roughly seven years ago. I consider myself extremely lucky in that while my illness forced me to retire early, I still achieved my retirement financial goals and retain excellent health insurance. I also count my blessings that I have not progressed to the level of being bed ridden or homebound. My heart goes out to those of you that have. I pray for you every day! The folks that post on DS have been a God sent. I have learned more about the complexities of ME/CFS and fibromyalgia from this site then I’ve ever learned from the scientific literature. PS. Hope the weather gets warmer in NJ real soon. Headed out there later this month to do some fishing at the shore with my brothers. Will be thinking about you as I'm standing at the edge of the ocean. For me, truly one of nature's greatest wonders! -

Sorry I missed the last hug! Things have gotten crazy busy so I've been off-line for a while. Son bought an old house and I'm (trying) to help him renovate it. I haven't felt so drained in a while but must push on! Hope things are going well for you. -

Hope your doing great Darla! I have been off-line for a while and may be for a while longer though I think and pray for everyone on DS every day! We bought a second home that needs some renovations so my physical stamina is really being put to the test! -
