Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
my love passed in September. I would only caution you, after reading the thread here, to be mindful of your needs while you are trying to keep from shutting down and trying to be strong for your girls.
if you lose sight of yourself, your physical and mental health can be affected by this unrecognized self neglect. so to truly be strong for your girls you must take very good care of yourself.
be mindful of eating, sleeping, and venting how you feel.
I wish I had magic words to make everything better for all of you, I am sorry for all the tomorrows that you were all denied by this terrible loss, and can only say treasure all the nows because someday they will be the memories that keep souls you love alive too. triple hugs~
People who don't know this kind of loss don't really know how to help. But please, for your girls's sake, ask for help. Whether it's babysitting, helping with laundry, cleaning the house, etc. You will find out who really can and will step up in the very difficult days ahead.
Like everyone else here has said, it's very important you take care of yourself as well as you can. You may not have an appetite, but try to eat; you're going to be more exhausted than you've ever felt in your life, but try to sleep. And please don't be a stranger here - we are here to listen, grieve and cry with you.

Like me, like all of us, you’re faced with a future without the person you expected to grow old with. You did everything together, talked throughout the day and went to bed and woke up to each other each day.
So what to do. Whatever you feel like doing. For me, spending time with supportive family and friends and talking to other widow/ers give me the most comfort. I need to be with people who will let me be me and who know what I’m going through. This experience has taught me, for one, to never tell someone who has lost someone to let me know if you need anything. I am in no frame of mind to know what I need. No, I will call and ask if I can come over and then bring something. Food, a bottle of wine, anything.
Most of all, I have learned to allow myself the time to grieve. I will not be on anyone’s timetable.
