Why DS is helpful

Since Friday I have been in an emotional free fall. Can't really say what has triggered it just looking at a way to get through. Yesterday I reached out to a grief recovery expert. She said something that really made me appreciate what I get from this DS group. "When we grieve, we grieve from our hearts. When people respond to us, they respond with their heads. Offering solutions or comments that negate the deep felt sorrow we are going through. Thusly making us feel we need to hide that grief, deal with it on our own, shove it down, none of which is healthy." The people on this site constantly amaze me by responding from their hearts. It is a place we all come to to feel heard. Thank you, Lori

Lori - Well said! I don't know what I would do without this group. I have found more comfort here than I can say. Yesterday when I was having a particularly bad meltdown - I posted and like you say - got responses from the heart. It helps to know that your not going down this road alone. Hugs to you...

This site has been a God send to me. I am a very private person and feel I can talk about anything here from the privacy of my home. The responding and posting about what is on our hearts is so healing.

I agree with all the comments. Having others totally understand the pain you are in means so much. People who have not experienced this have no idea how terrible it is to lose "your other half." I tell new members that this is a great place to find support and understanding - just what we all need!

I have never found any place like this! One of the many reasons I am still here...... Thank you for such an affirming post, too. It means a lot to me and the other CLs I'm sure.

You truly have a gift. Thanks for sharing yourself...yourselves (Sharon/Marsha) Yes DS is best. Even for us that just mostly read and admire everyones eloquence. Different lives/loves ~ same heart wrenching pain. Ugh ! Either the cross carries us or crushes us ... depends on the day. Dreading the 4th holidays w/o him... more real each year. Thy will be done.

This site is a well filled with life-saving water, from which we take and to which we give. Our sharing is unique because we each feel the others' pain... from our hearts, not our heads. Thank you, Lori, for that reminder.

Finding this site has been like finding a lifeline. We have all endured tremendous pain and sadness. Sharing our stories of love and loss provides us a connection unlike any other.

This site has provided me clarity on topics I would never dream of discussing with anyone who hasn't gone through this nightmare. The sensitivity, honesty and openness have helped me beyond measure.
I visit the site many times throughout the day. During each visit I learn, sympathize and relate. Wish you all could come over to my placed for a cup of coffee or glass of wine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that many people tend to want to "fix" our feelings as they are responding from their heads, not their hearts. What a good way of putting it.

I lost my husband a little over two years ago and I found DS about 7 months when I was in my first year. A time in my life that I wasn't sure I would make it through this dreadful pain. Since I have been here this site has given me hope, a shoulder to lean on, advice and I have hopefully helped others. Each one of us experience grief in a different way, but the one thing we have in common, is we have lost the love of our life. Each day does get easier, and with the continued help of everyone, old and new, we will prevail!!! Blessings SS103
