How I understand what you are saying. I still feel married. I don't feel like a widow. I hate that word. I certainly am not single as that would imply I was open to a relationship which I am not. Lost my husband just over 2 months ago. I wear my wedding ring and don't want to date or even entertain a man as a friend right now and am not sure if I ever will. My husband was also one of a kind and perfect for me. He was really the only person in my life who I completely trusted to always have my back no matter what. How can you move on from that and how could anyone ever compete with that. It just hit me the other day that in our wedding vows its says " Till Death Do Us Part" Funny how those words didn't sink in at the time. I don't feel we are parted anyway except physically. Emotionally I am still very much married to him and still very much in love with him. Just half of me is missing and my heart is shattered into a zillion pieces. Never say never, but if I were ever to find someone else I know it would pale in comparison to what I had. Don't think I could ever open up to another person the way I could to him. A very large part of me is gone so another person would only be getting a small part of who I was. Hope that makes sense.

In a nutshell, here is where I am at when it comes to feeling married but not wanting to live alone for the rest of my life.
I am not looking for a replacement in my life, but I would like someday to have an addition to my life. It is that simple.
I know how the outside world sees me and thats ok, but in my heart I will always be married to Janice. Anyone I would share life with would understand.
On facebook I removed my relationship status completely. After awhile it didnt seem right to show me as married but I didnt want to use the widower option. Now my facebook page doesnt list a status of any kind for me. My wife was not on facebook so it was a much simpler process for me, but even with that it was hard to do.

In 2010, I remarried a widower (Acuriousfish/Mark), and we have been married for just over 4 years.
I have two husbands. One is here, the other is in heaven.
I have described it as having two hearts. Here is a link to a discussion on that subject which I wrote after I became engaged:

I will never stop feeling married, to either of my husbands.

I came to this by knowing my friend I referred to earlier that our love is meant to be shared and life is meant to be enjoyed whether with someone or fully independent as an individual. It's a knowledge of the heart. Sharon
As I have said before, at six months the Scripture about there being no marriage in heaven hit me, and I immediately released Jake to be who he is now. Didn't want my grasping at him to in any way delay whatever he is to experience in heaven.
It will be two years on Tuesday and in that time, I have experienced nothing to indicate in any way that I am still married. My other half is gone and I have to drag myself around wounded until I become whole again.
ps: Dewey, your sheep comment made me laugh out loud!
I wish all the best and hope your days are good!

I guess everybody should do what they want but after 50 plus years from my, and I stress MY, standpoint it comes down to this. Somewhere in my computer (who in h*ll knows where) is a quote that goes something like this.
"Only once in life can we deeply, truly and completely love, for only once are we fully and properly equipped to do so".
When you reach a certain age (or as circumstances dictate) I believe you reach that level of acceptance. I for one have to follow my feelings, as does everybody else. That why we're all unique.
So yeah I'm still married.
