Thing's I hate doing

It was a dark and stormy night...

No, this is not the opening lines of a book. It's my house. You see, I hate changing light bulbs that are in the ceiling. Therefore, I've decided to not use them. Thus, the dark and stormy night intro. Before my husband passed, this was his job. Now, I save tons on the electric bill and I use a lot less bulbs. The way I see it, my ceiling lights just might make it into the turn of the century. I can see it now, my old pre-CFL bulbs, still working. Maybe they can be featured in the Smithsonian. The tour guide can say something like, 'this woman saved hundreds of dollars by sitting in a dark house.

So, I was wondering. What task are you now stuck with that you absolutely hate?

Truhal, you sure opened a can of worms with this thread!!! So many things I am reminded of and now realize how much I hate to do them...I hadn't even thought of all that snow and ice related stuff. ICK!, I don't even want to face that.
I do like sbrown's idea of swapping chores. Wouldn't that be great! Problem is I am afraid there are a few on this list that none of us would be willing to do....

If it involves electricity or gas and flames, I hate doing it! I onced singed my eyebrows off trying to light a gas grill and have been pretty wimpy about that kind of stuff ever since. Incidentally, Jeff laughed his *!# off over the eyebrow thing :-) The other thing I hate doing is being the primary disciplinarian for the kids. We used to have a pretty effective good cop/bad cop routine that would allow us to take turns being the heavy---it gets a little old having to be the heavy all the time. Thanks for allowing us to vent!

I just wanted to say I love this question which is a very good one and gives one pause to think, but my husband hasn't been well enough for about 3 years to do anything strenuous so I really can't remember anything in particular. I also like how you compensated by leaving the lights off. We are nothing if we are not resourceful. One of my professors used to say all the time if you don't know how to do something, just know where to go to find it out. I just thought I'd share that I always remembered that good piece of advice.

I hate pest control. Last winter I had a squirrel. The pest control people wouldn't believe me. They said it was mice. The men made too much noise when they came and didn't hear the loud gnawing! Too loud to be a mouse!! Later, I found a dead squirrel in my ash out-take box! I had wire screening put over my chimney opening this summer. It already had a cap. Time will tell whether that is the way it got in! I'm setting my own (humane) traps this year if it happens again. (Why pay and get no results?) All I could think of last year is that my wiring would get gnawed and start a fire.

My goodness! All these comments sounds like everyone lives in the north. Don't have to deal with snow or ice here. And the palm trees don't drop that much of a mess. Sounds like some of you have been chatting for some time. That is just great.

Gene always took care of the outside stuff, like yard work snow removal etc.
He had all the fancy equipment to do it but Im not strong enough to even start some of them. Plan on buying electric as soon as I can.
I have always taken care of the inside things so guess as long as I stay inside, I will be fine.

I'm with Dave on the cooking thing. We both cooked but the hard part is cooking for one. Too lonely. The ironing is hard also. The worst for me is opening the baking goods cabinet because she did all the baking and I did most of the eating. Sad to see her equiptment just sitting there and all the reciept books collecting dust.

Maybe I'm strange...there isn't anything that Chuck helped with that I hate doing. I would rather do those things. I got used to having to do everything when I was a Navy "cruise widow" and he would be deployed for 6 months at a time. I hate doing the dishes and inside stuff...dusting, cleaning. He did spoil me...he took over doing our laundry, partly because we live in a a 2 story house and the washer/dryer is downstairs. He was trying to save wear and tear on my knees. Oh how I miss him just being here. If he could be here healthy, I would do everything and not complain. Rest with the angels honey.
