Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
Be kind to yourself. Whatever you decide to do will be the right thing as long as whatever you do brings you the most comfort and the least amount of pain as possible.
Always do what is best for you and you will be better for it. Sharon
I would also recommend if you are fortunate to do so, to hang onto something that still has their scent on it, at least in the early months. I had almost nothing with Cliff's scent on it - he had done all of his laundry the day before he died - so the only things I had were the clothes he wore his last day and his old bathrobe. I used to wrap myself up in his bathrobe to sleep. It might sound strange, but that was one of the things I missed. I think I missed him on every level possible, maybe even on an animal level - maybe that's why I missed his scent? Don't know, but just a suggestion.
Love and Hugs....
I've regretted getting rid of some things after the fact but its only because I miss him. Keeping those items would not bring him back and I feel I have what is important. 24 years with him. His love and honor and his children. And the 17 1/2 year old cat :) great reminder!
