I just read that the average age for a widow is 56. Seems rather young to me, but I think most of us are around 50-something.

I got inducted at 40 and I have seen younger here. I would think this day and age there would be to many variables to get a real number but god bless em for doing the study.

Well I am 58. That may be the average age for widows but my husband Rob was only 46. We were together for 19 years. I use to tell him that we would probably die around the same time as women usually live 10 years on the average longer than men. That was an average too. Well if that was the case he would just have to live 2 years without me. He use to say he couldn't live 2 years without me. He won't have to worry about that now but what about me? How long does the average widow live withouth their husbands? Hug, Donna

I guess I am average as I was 56 and my beloved husband was 71. Wish I could have beat the odds. However, based on the previous responses, I feel extremely blessed. Too many of you lost your loved ones way too young. My prayers are with you.

I was widowed at 50 - Cliff was only 55. My mother was widowed at 63 when my Dad was 75. I wonder who they were using to come up with the numbers? They must be including the accidental deaths rather than the health/natural causes deaths, because I understood those ages to be about 20 or so years higher. I'd be curious to see the study. The only other widows that I know that were young/younger were because of accidents - everybody else I know still has their spouses, including those much older than me - definitely made me "odd man out."

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!
