Hi,
Does anyone have this type of pain? I was diagnosed with atypical facial pain, and have the following symptoms inside the nose and my nasal cavity.
-constant burning sensation in your nose
-pressure or crushing sensations in the nasal septum
-shooting pains
-nasal congestion with VERY thick white mucous
-no external trigger points, pain worsens when eating, talking, excecising etc.
The first neurologist I saw put me on Tegretol, but the side effects were overwhelming so I asked to be switched to Neurontin, which has not given me a lot of relief after almost 3 weeks (900 mg/day).
If anyone knows more about this condition (is it a form of TN or Sluder's Neuralgia) and what treatments have worked (meds, nerve blocks etc), please let me know. I just read some info about capsaicin and lidocane sprays, has anyone tried and had success with these?
thanks.

I don't really know how to label this but I having a rough week and I can't say it's one thing.... I have a lot on my plate which is nothing new and I try to cope in many positive ways and do but I still have my moments. My kids more so my daughters talk to me about everything which I know it's cause of comfort and we are close.... however I really struggle with the venting about their dad which...

When I mentioned it to the specialist I was told it was sinus pain and not related to TN.
I hope they come up with an answer for you.
Don't wait for weeks between treatments. If it's not helping in a week, call your Dr. I have been battling new onset facial pain since August 19, 2009. I have seen 5 specialists so far. I was put on Tegretol too. What a trip! I was shaking and hallucinating while driving-awful.
Keep up your spirits and know that you are not alone. We all deal with pain in different ways. Keep talking to someone, either here or at home. This is a very depressing condition, but you can find ways to deal with it. Find something to absorb your attention. Reading, painting, sculpting, or other hobby. This takes you out of the now (and the pain) and puts you in a different place. It really works!
I hope things get better for you and I'll say a prayer for you.
hugs,
Louise
They did tell me that I have a crooked nasal septum and a septal spur that is poking on my inferor turbinate. This was back in the spring, then I was sent to see a cosmetic surgeon where he gave me the option of having septoplasty (to correct the aforementioned structual issue), but he could not tell me if that would stop the pain so I elected not to go for surgury at the time. I am going to see him later this month to evaluate surgury again. Thinking perhaps an MRI will help determine whether my condition can be fixed with surgury. For the past year I had been trying various treatments for rhinitis and sinusitis and have taken many antibiotics.
Anyway, I'm glad I found this forum as I've been fighing this alone since late 2008 (really). Helps to be able to share info like this with others who have similar experiences.
Hopefully, this makes sense..it's almost 5am and I have yet to sleep, and have hardly eaten in days due to the pain, so I am a bit delirious to say the least.
Have you had any teeth pain at all or pressure or pain along your cheek bones?
Either way, I advocate sleeping with extra pillows to relieve any pressure on the sinuses.
Sorry that your hurting. Good luck finding some answeres. Please keep us posted!

Thanks!!
I also have similar symptoms with my TN and pain in my nose. I often explain it as feeling like I have a big bruise on the bottom of my nose like someone just punched me in the face, but sometimes it also feels like pins and needles. I am currently on Tegretol (200 mg twice a day) and Cymbalta (60mg once per day) and it has helped with the frequency of atattacks, but when I do have attacks they are just as painful. I hope that you find something that works for you soon.
Take care and good luck!
Hope you feel better soon.
I'm interested in learning what works!
I do find temporary relief with salsa which has capisin.
Keep hydrated. The sinuses can be mildly dehydrated which adds to the problem.
