I'm new to the TMJ board. I have itchy in-the-ear canals. I also wear a hearing aid in one ear as I am hearing impaired.

Yes, itchy ears are a problem for me as well, but the problem that I have is sharp ear pain that will usually follow right after the itching occurs. You are def not alone here, I know what you are going through.

Yup- itchy here too.... sometimes I just want to dig a sharp pencil in there (but I don't).... hahaha

I've experienced the ringing in my ears, too with sporadic itchiness. I am trying to find out more info about this and will post to this discussion once I hear something. Sometimes, I've had to take pain meds to stop the really LOUD ringing. That seems to help some. Hang in there everyone!

my ears itch all the time. i am so glad to hear i am not alone in this. i thought there was something wrong with me. it bugs me so bad.

OH MY GOD THE ITCHING IS CONSTANT, do not clean your ears or itch them with q tips, jut makes it much much worse, leave the wax there. maybe even lotion.... I don't know if it's tmj, i had bad jaw pain last month so it's a deffinite possibility, got hit im the ear in a fight 4 years ago not sure if that was it or what.... holy cow it itches, i literally had a screw in my ear yesterday.... it feels like hair is growing in there... it's insane.

omgosh I know this is an old post but Im so glad I found it. My ears symptoms have been horrible. They hurt and feel stuffed and i have a constant tickle in them like there are bugs stuck in there. It makes me feel off balance and nauseas. I guess im not alone in this. I have an appointment with an ent coming up to see if theres something else going on altho my pcp says my ears look fine so Im guessing it really could jsut be from my jaw.

My doctor gave me some type of cream to put in my ear for the itching. The cream caused my ear to get infected. I had itching for about a year. Then it stopped.

So many of you have seen your PCPs and ENTs, and none of them suggested physical therapy? I have TMJ and the ear itching is by far the worst symptom for me (other than flare ups). I went to 2 different ENTs before I went to PT school, and they would always give me weird looks when I told them about the bug crawling feeling! IN ANY CASE, now I am a physical therapist and WE TREAT TMJ disorders! And it’s the only thing that has helped my symptoms (and now when my itchiness comes on randomly, I can mobilize the joint and make it go away). Please, if you’re to the point that you’re sticking q tips and lotions and drops in your ears, go see a DPT who does TMD therapy. I promise it will help at least decrease your symptoms! I wouldn’t have known unless I’d gone to school for it... it’s worth a shot!

I have the Crazy Itchy Ears as well and like some of the people in this Thread have said ... it often feels as if there's an insect crawling inside the ear even though there's nothing in there & no-one seems to have a clue what I'm talking about, let alone WHAT TO DO ABOUT it!!!!! It's maddening! Who can help us?

Yes @deleted_user I have the heartbeat in my left ear. Pulsatile tinnitus. Drives me crazy.

DaveMC, thank you so much. Literally no one has ever explained to me about how the nerves are right by the mandibular hinges. My ears lately have felt like a horrible burning pain. It even made it hard to fall asleep one night. But of course the ENT says I have perfect hearing and was very dismissive. I told him all about my TMJ and the crackling sounds I get in my ears when I am in loud situations and he said "well avoid loud situations." Gee, what a great suggestion! Not!

OMG! I'm experiencing and feel your pain in so many ways!! I'm about to lose it!!:) I've done it all in reguards to figuring out what I have - such as neck surgery , numerous Ct scans , MRIS you name it!! I think these people think I'm whack!! Symptoms.. felling of a rubber band being placed around my head , left side of face feels numb and tingly , full , numb and or asleep feeling in ears , clicking in jaws, grinding feeling on left side., feeling of the bugs crawling out!!. went to ENT checked ears and found no issues but I practically begged dr to put in to see if the pressure would release but after surgery my right ear felt like it was going to explode!!!!!! Now I'm battling both ears but left side is definitely worse!! Now! I just had my TMJ Dr visit and I have hope that this could be the fix!! It makes some sense in what he says.. with the issues being in both ears and the only thing that connects both ears is the jaw so we shall see!! The worst part about all of this is the hearing in a jar feeling and my music volume always adjusting on it's on!! Sorry venting..

Itching is a prickling like reaction of nerves affected in the TMJ region by the condition. Neuropathy in a sense.
