Health care costs will continue to be a problem in this country until----1) there is some competition regarding prices between drug companies, and 2) until the drug companies and companies that render health services no longer have the politicians in their pockets.

Regarding your meds, I have an idea which might help save you some money.

Most drugs are available in different strengths. Just for the sake of explaining, let's use Valium---diazepam----as an example. Diazepam comes in strengths of 10mg, 5mg, and 2mg. If your dosage is 5mg three times a day or as needed, you can save a LOT of money by having your physician prescribe the 10mg tablets and cutting them in half to get the 5mg dosage.

If any of your meds are in generic form, Wal Mart has a generic drug list where you can buy a 30 day supply of certain meds for four dollars or a 90 day supply for ten dollars.

I doubt Walmart would save me much money. Without insurance it would cost me a month's pay for the new med I'm on, and it's an incredibly small dose (2 mg) of a generic drug. Plus the state where I live has an increased cost of living, which adds to the price of everything. And as it stands the dosage I'm on is just barely keeping my head above water.

I feel for you, drug companies charge as much as they can get away with.

Apparently the cost of the cheapest insurance policy available here that would qualify under Obama Care would cost me a month's pay. And even if I were making enough money to qualify in the government healthcare website to get the discount on the policy it would still cost me about a third of what I'd be making per month.

He may not want to say rew. And there's quite a few drugs that are very, very expensive.

It's an antipsychotic for dealing with the overwhelming anxiety issues.

SW, can you qualify for free samples from the manufacturer for this drug? I know there are companies that offer help for their medications. Not sure if the drug you are being prescribed is one of these.

I know that our co-pay went up from $4.00 to $8.00 and then up to $47.00, and we had to choose which medicines were more important. Sad reality. I wish there were more we could to do to help each other get the medication we need without all the overwhelming anxiety (which is the medication being prescribed, talk about catch-22).

I was supposed to get a pay raise earlier this year, but due to pay cuts where I work I didn't get it. Apparently if I had gotten rhe pay raise it would have been just enough for me to have qualified for health insurance.

Offically America is a representative democracy, but it's technically more of a representative aristocracy. American elections are mostly mudslinging since most Americans are not well versed in politics (according to reputable research only about 50% of Amercans can accurately answer simple questions on how American politics work, 49% know virtually nothing factual about American politics and only about 1% know a substantial amount of factual information in the subject). So elections here are more about who can make their opponents look the worst. This requires a great deal of money if you want to win an election and the only way to get enough money to win is by accepting very large donations from wealthy special interest groups and businesses. However, this means the politicians have to cater to the desires of these benefactors while they're in office if they want their continued support.

As a result our politicians end up representing the interests of the wealthy more than those of the people.

I live in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, the state capital. Our 3rd rate local baseball team (actually fun to go watch) is called the Senators. My daughter's school was going there on a field trip, and being the contrary parent that I am...I said no. She begged, so I said that she could go if she wrote a Senator a letter or wrote me a paper on our federal and state government. She choose the letter. Then she got to choose if she wanted to write a state or federal Senator (and got to learn the difference). So she wrote our local Senator and got a very nice letter back. (I think that she asked her what made her go into politics, but I told her that she could ask about whatever she wanted...from gun control, to school funding.)

I finally signed the permission slip and she took the letter in to show her teacher.
