Shingles Support Group

Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.

Dating

I am 38 with RA and chronic shingles. I have been single for many years, happily and just raising my kiddos, but I would like to start dating. It seems like these medical issues would be a lot of baggage to bring to a relationship, though. Any of you in similar situations? What have your experiences with dating been like?

Just because you have a medical condition doesn't mean you don't deserve a companion in your life! I had previous health issues before my shingles. I found someone who understands me, if not my medical situation completely. But he is compassionate and caring and cares about me and how I'm doing. Since my shingles I've developed epilepsy as well and he's still here by my side while we figure out what's going on with me. There's someone out there for you who is just as special.

There are moments where it happens, you meet that person who lets you be you, no matter what, and I say, enjoy it!

It is hard with shingles, to just be.

Thanks everyone for your kind words of support. I've been looking around match.com and eharmony, but haven't joined yet. I have a particularly nasty shingle on my nose that I would like to get cleared up before meeting someone new.

    I did the dumbest thing today.  I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds.  I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym.  What a dummy!
