She's getting married next Saturday, to a nice guy, but I'm already panicking that they are driving one state away for their honeymoon. I actually ran a background check on this guy.
So...from a paranoid parental perspective, I totally get the extreme reaction.
Rather than go over my fears too much she wanted to look at what I could do to ease them and we came up with an idea of me visiting my local airport (if they allow) and having them do like a mini walkthrough of the sort of thing that would happen when I go to a bigger airport in may. Well, I came up with the idea then decided it was stupid and dismissed it but she said it was a great idea. No harm in asking them.
I quoted the yeti thing to her; she liked that a lot :) We got talking about measured risk etc when I mentioned my dad's response and I was listing a few things that were realistically more likely to happen than cult murder like me contracting dvt...or the clot thingie because I couldn't remember the name..and me missing a connect and being stuck in washington or something.
It really did me good to talk it out with her so I'm glad I did. She is really proud of how far I've come and it's so rare I get to actually see that in someone.

I'm not afraid of heights as such. I get vertigo but only when I am on something I believe is unsafe -even when logic defies my assessment - so step ladders or wooden piers that had stood the test of time but will suddenly be defeated by my presence on them! I also get the same sensation walking under old brick bridges. I'm weird ;)
