Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
"my gp says it can't be because my INR was 2.4 at the time "
Well, I don't see why not since we know that some people can get DVTs and PEs while on Coumadin and reportably in range.
I'm sure it wouldn't be common but.......... it's listed on possible causes for subconjunctival eye hemorrhage.
Do you know if the hem. is in the vitreous humor? (I'd imagine that if it were on the retina you would have known!)

Here is what I went through a few months ago (picture is actually me):

My INR at the time was 1.8 (was on low intensity Warfarin Treatment - PREVENT) at the time.
Mine took about 3-4 weeks to return to normal.

Eww-ww! (grin) I hope that wasn't painful. (You could have been hired as an extra in a horror flick.)
My 12 y.o. daughter wouldn't look me in the eye though for weeks (lol)...
Figured when this happened, would ask Dr. Moll to write a short article about the condition for the website. Sad thing is we were on vacation during the recovery process in Florida so forgot to take pictures of the eye as things went from bright red to pink and back to white just to show the transition during the recovery process.
Tom, every time I've seen that pic of your eye, it gives me the willies!
Both my optometrist and hematologist have said that this is more common in people on anticoagulants, but not harmful provided it doesn't affect your vision or hurt. Sometimes I feel a little *pull* when I look to the side, but no pain.
My GP actually referred me to ophthalmology (5 month wait) since I seem to always get mine in the same area. If there's a weaker vessel it's possible they might cauterize it.
I don't know if it's at all related, but I do notice the blood vessels in my eyes are much more visible now than they used to be, in general.
probably not caused by warfarin. I do have glaucoma and high pressure in eyes if not on drops, And it was on the inside of my eye
you could not see it from the outside.
The eye guy put me on more drops for about 3 months and the bleeder is
gone. He still wants me to use the drops just in case.
I have heard when you use antibiotics it might affect your INR. Does anyone know of this is true of the antobiotic eye drops as well?
