Oh man. My Mirena fell out a couple of weeks ago and I'm supposed to have it replaces next month. Now I'm rethinking this. I had one when I was diagnosed, and the ER doctor even told me it was probably from the Mirena. No other doctor I've talked to since then thinks so. Still...

Are you working with an OBGYN to have it reinserted? I'd just have a discussion with her/him about the risks and get an opinion on all your birth control options. If you're not seeing an OBGYN, I would find one.

I am not anti hormonal birth control, at all, whether it's progesterone or estrogen. In fact, the more options for all of us, the better. I just think we need to be informed and know what we are putting into our bodies, know the pros and cons and then make an informed decision for ourselves.

I love your sense of humor AussieAnn. The more we can laugh at the disturbing things that happen to us, the better we can deal with the shock, frustration, anxiety, etc. A good hearty laugh has tremendous healing power :)

Ament, I also had to deal with Mirena "failure" as you had, about a month after I had it put in to stop the bleeding. I ended up going for an ablation and myomectomy and had another one put in. My OBGYN and my haematologist both felt that it was a safe option despite my PEs in April. I had to do something because I was dealing with ongoing massive periods, that were definitely made worse by the anticoagulants. 6 weeks into the new Mirena and all is well.

I had extremely heavy periods/clotting on Coumadin and Xarelto. I became extremely anemic and it delayed my recovery process. I was put on iron infusions and taken off of anti-coagulant therapy. I was 7 months post PE> It turns out I had a very large fibroid.
