Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

I'll be in the hospital starting on Wednesday for sinus surgery. Because of my warfarin issues, the surgeon is threatening to keep me in there until my INR is therapeutic again, which (as we all know) may take a while. I'm envisioning being in there for 4-5 days.
With my first DVT (2005) and my PEs (2010) I was in the hospital less than 24 hours each time and it was on an emergency basis. I've never had a chance to pack for the hospital and I've never stayed in for so long. It may seem obvious to y'all, but I'm really not sure how to pack for this.
I know lots of you were in the hospital many, many days and were probably bored crazy by the end of it. What would you suggest I take with me so I'm (a) comfortable and (b) not bored out of my gourd?
I'll just say now that I don't have a laptop and have already hit the library for reading and listening material. My husband will be by every day and can bring stuff, but I hate to give him a new list of things to bring every day.
Thanks much!

Look at what my best friend did with my picture!

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
We'll be thinking about you!

If you don't have a laptop and might be there for a few days, I would consider asking your friends if they might be around in the evenings to visit. You can always play some cards. Visitors definitely help the time to pass!!!
When I was there, they provided me with an extra hospital gown to wear as a robe, and they always are giving you those non-slip socks. If you have to have an IV in, you won't be wearing your own clothes.
I agree, if you are a picky eater, it can be nice to have some of your own food- see if you can get a mini-fridge for your room. I was in the maternity ward area for my 2.5 weeks, so I don't know how easily you can get that elsewhere in the hospital.
They also had a DVD cart there so it might be worth asking about that too. I don't watch much TV at home, so thought it might be fun to watch cable, but daytime TV can be pretty bad!
Good luck!
I would say look into one or two things, Netflix if you have it is great and if not Hulu has some free content (Movies and TV).
BUT, my primary doc, the floor doc, the nurse, etc. ... no one else thought I needed to go home with them since I'm on Lovenox and more likely to be mobile at home than at the hospital. So the surgeon got overridden and I came home. Whew! I'll probably have to face her wrath at my Tuesday appointment, but I feel so much better being home, it is crazy.
Still very tired. Came home and slept twelve hours last night and I assume I'll have a couple more naps today. Right now, hard to tell how things went. Nose is draining, which is expected, but I have no pain at all and other than being tired, I'm doing OK. Thanks for all the advice and well wishes. So helpful having y'all out there!
Take those naps as you need them and let me know if you have any questions. *hug*
Keep us posted :-)
